All-Star Maryland Marlins Merging With Maryland Twisters

Every athlete that tries out has to pay an evaluation fee, period. If you are a returning athlete you had to pay an evaluation fee, albeit it is slightly cheaper than the $65 fee which is for all new athletes. EVERY athlete in the program had to pay the fee so once again it was not a secret and/or hidden fee. I cannot speak about our water fountain'less facility but thankfully there are kind companies out there like Gatorade, Fiji, Deer Park, etc. who have come to our aid and sell these bottles filled with clear liquid at a plethora of locations (gas stations, grocery stores, New Hampshire Ave). Clearly I'm being facetious but we are not trying to "get" anyone in this process. Some kids think Twisters is a great fit and others have chose to go elsewhere. I kind of feel like people are grasping at straws...

There is also this really cool innovation called a reusable water bottle! You can fill it at home for pennies ;) Seriously who picks a gym based on the availability of a water fountain?

to eliminate possible future confusion, we also do not have AC! however most of the kids bring several water bottles, towels, and shirts lol. as beyonce once wisely said, "a little sweat never hurt nobody!"

We all know a water fountain is not going to make or break the choice of a gym but when you're upset about a lot of other things sometimes trivial things like a water fountain do seem overly important. My cp's gym, which we just switched to, does not have a water fountain and I didn't even realize it until reading the comments in this thread.

Our first gym did not even have AC but the owners/coaches convinced the kids that AC was for wimps and that it was bad for warmed up muscles. Of course, when it was 90-100 degrees during the summer they would either cancel practice or have a "lights out, hot yoga day" I kid you not!

I agree with you, but that part of the post just seemed crazy to me. And for the record I also feel bad for the Marlins families that have been uprooted from a home they love and wish all of those kids well in finding a new home, whether it be Twisters or somewhere else.

To change the subject a little... Does anyone know the status of Terri's Supersquads program? I hope it continues on, such a fun/easy intro to cheer for so many young kids in Howard county!

I laughed so hard at the "lack of water fountain" comment. Firstly, Twisters don't have time for kids to wait in line at a water fountain during breaks...go get your water bottle and get back on the matt! Oh...also, Twisters might not have a water fountain but they certainly have a very impressive Worlds/National's Trophy Case!!!

Hey, I'm one of the "merged" parents from Marlins and even I found that a bit on the petty side of things. I know they said it was just an added thing to an already stressful situation, but honestly, water is my last concern in all this. My first being the welfare and happiness of my child.

I completly agree. I am not happy about the situation, but I actually like the fact that they don't have a water fountain. I yell at my cp all the time when she says she doesn't have a water bottle. It takes up too much time.

Change happens, and it sucks sometimes. But some of the greatest opportunities for growth and tests of character are based in how people react to changes. One thing we should all remember is that anything can happen on any given day in this business and life, and happily, we have the freedom of choice of what we do with our time and money. I wish all parties the best of luck wherever they choose to go or whatever they choose to do. (Just saying also that if this HAD to happen at all, at least this happened now, in the summer, unlike what happened to the poor Vipers kids last year, in the middle of their comp season.) There are always "new homes" out there to be made, but they are what we make of them. Choice is ours to make our futures positive or negative experiences. :)

FWIW, I'd be annoyed, too, if I'd signed up my kid for a program that supposedly "merged" with another and then was told I had to pay another tryout/evaluation fee. It wouldn't be a big thing or a deal-breaker by any means, but it'd certainly raise an eyebrow or two.

On the flip side, the water fountain complaint is kinda silly. Our gym has one, but if our gym didn't have one it wouldn't be like "OMG THIS IS TORTURE WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN". I'd probably just make sure my daughter actually brought her water bottle to the gym every day then.

I've tried to stay out of this, strictly because I know it's a stressful situation on both sides, but the water fountain complaint is over the top. I personally hate water fountains. There is always some weird object in it and I haven't seen too many places take bleach water and scrub it down every few hours. Besides that, your kid is going to athletic practice, shouldn't you make sure she has water on her?
