A group of US cheerleaders is heading to London to cheer for the Men’s Basketball Semifinal and Finals. The group, sponsored by Varsity, is comprised of outstanding college cheerleaders and top instructors from throughout the United States. You can follow their Olympic Journey via Social Media here (on their Storify news page).

“Today we arrived in London! We spent most of the day getting everything set for the rest of the week.

First, we traveled to where we will be staying – which is within walking distance of the Olympic Village– Michael Phelps and Gabby Douglas are soo close! After settling in we headed to pick up our Olympic Credentials; while getting our ID’s made, we were not allowed to smile in our pictures, which was not easy for any of us due to all the excitement!

Later, we had to get some practicing in. We put together four timeout routines along with several other skills to perform at the basketball games (semi-finals and finals). GO Team USA!

We finished up our practice and headed out to have our first dinner in London – fish and chips anyone? Tomorrow we have to be ready at 6:00am to head to the Olympic Village, we are on standby to watch some of the other events, fingers crossed we get to see some Gymnastics or Track & Field, actually any of them would be cool! What would be your favorite event to watch?”

One of them I forgot his name though was a staff member at my UCA Camp. He told us he was leaving earLy to go cheer in London. So we needed up taking his little bro's and sis's

Pretty cool, they are UCA instructors and college cheerleaders, part of me wishes it was Allstar and only because college cheer is more well known, I want people to know what Allstar cheer is all about.

I think it makes sense in this case because it involves side line cheering. Makes more sense to have current or former college cheerleaders in that case. Plus then you can do all the level 6/college skills the NCAA banned at basketball games a few years ago.

While All Star cheer should get their name out, and the Olympics would seem like a great venue to do so, I don't think so. I love all star cheer, but cheering at a basketball game would not do it any justice.
Having experienced cheering on the sidelines, you're so limited with what you can do. You're on a hard wood floor, there's no music, and you have a minute at the most during a time out to show off. Plus, it is sideline cheering. I feel like a lot of people do all star cheer because 1, they don't cheer on sidelines; and 2, it's all about competition.
And I said in a different thread, it's the Olympics. If representing my country I would want to look amazing and have the best people out their with me. And while I'm not doubting any skills of all star, I'd rather have a college cheerleader who is used to cheering at games, because it's what they know and they can do it really well.

Great article! It was so interesting. I will be sure to watch out for the team during the semi's and finals. Good luck and Gob Bless all of you.

I didnt realize they were doing sideline cheering, of course if they do college makes more sense. I was thinking more of half time shows. That's it no big deal

I saw some British squads cheering on the sidelines during some pool play games. I thought it was very cool. The Brits are very big into cheer now.
