is it against the rules of high school cheerleading to have a tattoo? i figured it isnt as long as its covered up maybe, because it's your body so you should be able to do whatever you want to it. I am supposed to be getting a tattoo with my mom on the back of our necks above the back kinda big but not huge, my coach probably would be against it but unless there is a physical rule that you cannnot have tattoos, she doesn't contrl me.. thank you

What about those bigger square bandaids?? its not like if someone sees it their going to be like oh hey whats under that bandaid ? can I see? highly unlikely it will happen ! I think your good :)

I mean as long as you don't have a arm-sleeve of tattoos, I don't see the problem. And The bandaid idea is a good idea!

The policy varies from school to school. Read the school handbook to be sure.

I am not so much concerned about someone getting a tattoo, but the attitude! not good. Correct, neither your coach or mostly anyone can tell you what you can and can not do to/with your body. However, you must realize that humans are very judgemental and regardless if we like it or not, it is a part of life and must be taken into consideration when making certain decisions such as getting a tattoo.

While you coach can not tell you what to do with your body, so some respect. If this means sooooooo much to you and you mom, talk to the coach first so you have some idea how they would view it; weigh the consequences and make an informed decision. .....JMO as a mom and coach

if you're getting a tattoo that can't be covered up by your clothes or your uniform itself then you should probably wait to get it or rethink it. Im not saying you'll regret it but it probably isn't worth all the trouble to get it and then have to cover it up all the time

Ah, spoken like a true teen...

You're right, it's your body. But it's the school's, and by extension, your coach's, team.
By all means, get the tat, if that's what moves you to greatness. But don't expect the rest of the world to think it's nearly as fabulous as you think it is. You represent that entire team and your school, whether you think you should or not. If you have to wear your hair, makeup, shoes and uni a certain way, don't think for one second that they can't control you showing permanent decoration on your body. They can.
Check your student handbook and/or state athletic league handbook. That's where you'll find the rule for your particular area. Still doesn't mean they can't implement a rule at the drop of a hat if they feel like it.

It's your body so you CAN (not should) be able to do whatever you want to it. Your coach, a future employer, etc. CAN choose to not let you on their team or give you a job.

Just keep in mind all of your actions as you express your individuality have consequences. Make sure you are willing to live with them and it's worth it.

This. Times a million. It's not actually a "right" to be on a team at your school. It's a privilege. Your coach doesn't have to let you do anything. Not sure where you got the idea that she doesn't control you, but she does - at least to the extent she controls whether or not you can be on HER team, and the appearance guidelines she expects you to follow. (ah I could go on all day about how this is what's wrong with kids and schools now - that somewhere along the line kids got the idea that their teachers/principals/coaches don't "control" them.)

I'm completely with Mamarazzi - if the tattoo is something that you just must do, then do it. But remember that when you are part of your school's cheer team, everything you do represents your school. Your school and your coach have every right to decide how and by whom they want to be represented.

I coach middle school, so tattoos would never (I hope!) be an issue for my team. But I do have a no jewelry rule. I've had a girl in the past get her ears pierced halfway through the season, and I told her she had to take them out for games, competitions and practices or be taken off the team. She chose to keep her spot on the team and removed the earrings. So ask first! Because if your coach (or school) has some sort rule about this and you do it without permission, be prepared for the consequences. And as your coach, she does have the right to remove you from the team.

if you were on my squad...i would bench you. that is my policy. But that's me. after you graduate, game on!

Is it common for school to have policies against tattoos? I didn't know that was a thing... At my school its really common to have kids, teachers and coaches with visible tattoos.

I don't really think it will be a problem if it has like significant meaning to it, I would just cover it up for games and competitions
