I have just been offered an amazing job opportunity. I am a single Mom of 4 young kids and this would make a huge difference & help to my family, but I am torn. The job is almost 4 hours from where I live. If I take it my girls will have to quit their cheer teams. If we were at a large gym it would be a lot easier to replace them, but we are at a medium size gym & their loss would hurt the team. Choreography camp is over & the routines are set in stone. Comp. start in less than 2 months. I feel so bad & guilty hurting a team of sweet girls that have worked so hard. I have to make a decision ASAP. I just don't know what to do. Advice appreciated.

I mean I know you didn't do it intentionally but in the end of the day you have to make the decision that is best for you. This will be with you more then this season and yes they will be hurt but no one can fault you as almost everyone would do the same thing! People will forgive you! Let us know how it all works out.

Eta: idk where your may be moving but there might be great gyms there as well and maybe your kids will like it a lot.

If you take the job, are you moving, or are you saying that theres no way you could make it back in time to take them?

I have to decide soon. If I take the job I will have to move. Since it is 4 hours away it would be impossible for me to keep the girls on their current teams. I would work till about 5 pm everyday. One team is from 5-7 pm on Mon/Wed , the other team is from 5:30-7:30 on Tu/Th. It would be impossible to make it work. :(

:( You need to take the job. It will help you SO much. The options i suggest;

A. Take the job. Move. Switch Gyms.

B. Take the job. Don't Move. Get rides from friends to the gym since you're at work.

C. Take the Job. Move. Finish this season by getting rides from a very generous friends lol.

"A" is the most practical decision. I mean, i'm just a kid, so i can't really give you advice, but if i were you, that would be my options.

Thanks, your advice is very sweet. Their school day would end around 3 pm. That would put them at the gym at about 7 pm. So, even if I could pay someone to take them back & forth they wouldn't make it to the gym on time.

Thats too bad. Best of luck to you. You just have to pick whats best for your family.

ETA: This seems unreasonable, but is there any possible way your boss would let you wait until the Cheer season ends to take the job? Haha, its probably impossible, but just an idea.

Are we talking a substantial raise? Room for growth, good benefits? Will this significantly help you raise and take care of your family. Will it help provide them and you with things you are currently not able to do? Cheer should not influence a decision like this. If this job can help you help your family, go for it. There are a ton of cheer gyms. There isn't any coach or owner who wouldn't understand. Yes, it's tough, but they'll figure it out.

That is a really tough decision to make, but at the end of the day cheer shouldn't take over your whole life and dictate your decisions. If taking the job is what is best for you and your family, then that's what I would do. Yes, it will be hard to pull the girls and you and they will both probably feel bad for the effects it will have on their teams but I highly doubt anyone could be mad at you. It's not like you pulled them for the heck of it to go to the gym down the street. Losing an athlete on a team is tough, but it always works out. They will be able to figure out how to move things around in a practice or two and then will be able to move forward :) Let us know what you decide!

Definitely take the job. You need to do what is best for your family in the long run. There will always be other cheer gyms, and I'm sure the current gym will understand your reasons. Good luck!

Take the job. I love cheer as I'm sure so do you. But my cp needs me working so I can be sure I can pay for college first, cheer and other stuff second. Staying on the team hurts YOU and your family first, the team second. Who will you choose?

All of this is said based on your statement that it' a great job.
Then find another gym. Good luck to you and your girls.

Take the job. As a girl who made herself broke trying to cheer with no job- TAKE THE JOB. My health suffered because of it, and I've never forgotten what it was like to subsist off of pasta with butter. As much as you don't want to hurt the gym, family comes first. Blood family before cheer family..and I'm sure they appreciate your decision to consider them too.

Take the job. In the grand scheme of things, it is just cheer--an after-school extra-curricular activity (just like any other sport or activity). The girls may love it, but a new job is your livelihood. The job is what pays the bills. Period. The cheer team will make adjustments and be just fine.
