All-Star Special Treatment From Ep's & Vendors

@Kingston's idea is a great one and a couple other suggestions I would add are...

1. - Make all discounts for the competitions public and on the front end (before the competitions). Less expensive competition fees could create tremendous growth.

2. - Instead of having a coaches/owners lounge use that space for a secure, clean changing area for cheerleaders. I would prefer that each program get their own area but I know that isn't feasible.

With my two suggestions and Kingston's I think the EP's would actually save money at each competition. The gym owner unfortunately would end the year with a slight decrease at the end of the year but if I'm correct that cheaper competition could create both retention and growth then both would actually increase profits.

For once all three groups would profit and they would all live happily ever after...

I look forward to your feedback.

I haven't been to every competition, but coaches' "lounges" are almost never luxurious, spacious, or secure. It is typically a few folding chairs and snacks if we are lucky. It is generally just a semi-quiet place to escape the noise and chaos between coaching teams.

A secure changing area is an idea that I haven't seen implemented, but that sounds like it would not be a difficult task for an EP. The "secure" part would be the hard part, I imagine.

Lowering the costs of events is a win for the gyms and athletes, but EPs may not feel the same way.

I am against any special discounts to any competition no matter the size of your program. I also coach at a small gym, and some of my clients are not the wealthiest parents in the world. They sell anything from cookie dough to Scentsy products to fund their child's passion. This sport lacks fairness and equality. I pray for the old days of allstar cheer. Things were so pure in the 90's.

We have already dictated to EPs how much money we are willing to pay... if they do anything to make their event "cheaper", the money won't be going back to the programs, the coaches, or the parents. The money will be going in their pockets as a for-profit company.

Until a WHOLE LOT of programs decide that XX is too much money to pay and refuse to attend events, the prices will not go down. I'd wager the prices will never go down because there are too many parties involved to have a significant impact.

@REAdad every EP I know offers early bird registration discounts on their website. These are the only discounts I've ever seen (or have been) offered.

Coaches rooms are usually exactly as BlueCat said. We get excited if there is an ice chest with drinks or snacks.

Finally, I'm probably one of the few gyms in America that cuts a refund check back to parents at the end of every season. Any money we save on early registrations or don't spend on whatever we budgeted for (cheaper make up or discounted socks perhaps) goes back to the customer. It's not our money to keep.

Sorry for the double post. I got an error message the first time. And I made a tag fail. REA Dad

I'm not against coaches having rooms or lounges I just think it's more important that the cheerleaders have a place to change that is clean and private. If both are available then everyone wins.

I understand you aren't against it, I just can't think of one event we attended where there would have been a room or enough rooms to accommodate so many people at once. How would you propose they offer this area and not have it overrun? Would it be coed?

ACE does.

It would have to be divided and although it's usually a small room i think as long as it is manned by event staff it could controlled at least a little better than the rest rooms are when they change in there instead, lol.

I don't want to make this thread about locker rooms though because I think Kingston judging idea and my up front discount idea are way more important.

No worries. I do hate how crowded the bathrooms get. I know all the best or "secret" bathrooms for every venue we go to lol.
I make my kids arrive dressed and ready. I make it very clear that they are to arrive completely ready to go one hour ahead. If they have to be there earlier (say for a siblings performance) they're to be dressed and ready. I don't want my athletes hogging the bathrooms. Plus I think it's stressful to the kids to have to get ready in a corner.

Cheaper events is probably not realistic without coming up with a way to lower the cost of producing an event.

My solution would be to have fewer, but larger events. (economies of scale, etc.) Getting to that point is the tricky part.

REA Dad

I'm not sure of the pricing structure of the gym you are at. Maybe your gym charges you for each individual competition, if that is the case then I can see why you would think that you should get the rebate. However, your gym owner would then most likely raise your tuition to cover that loss of income and you'd end up paying the same amount either way.

I do all inclusive pricing for everything except for Uniforms, since some people don't need new ones. So that its just $200 a month instead 0f $700 is competitions and $20 is for coaches travel, and $25 for music, and 100$ for choreography and 15 for a shirt and 70 for shoes and $20 for a bow plus $100 a month and so on. it works out the same. (I was just making up some numbers by the way)
