Some of this I understand, I don't particularly like it, but I get it. But what's the purpose behind eliminating partner stunt? How on earth could that be confused with gymnastics, by the public?

Not sure if I am reading this correctly but does it say that in order for the FIG to be willing to accept cheer as a sport then there is a mandatory part for a cheer/chant and mandatory use of "props" in the routine? It sounds like HS & college cheer, not all-star.

When we started Allstar it had props and cheers..... I remember they even called it all music when it changed!

Somewhere....all the evil conspiracy theorists who have been chased off ProX, I misstheXBoards versions 1 and 2 are laughing, even if crying over all these recent revelations and exposures of what is really going on out of Memphis. Uniform restrictions, tumbling restrictions, now this. So many of the this things we were told years ago were going to happen and were repeatedly denied over the years are happening. It looks like you will get the "sport" status you desire but lose what you embrace as the pure athleticism and show of cheer.

Somewhere in the background an old song is playing....you got what you wanted but lost what you had.

Man the reactions to this are SO freaking funny to me. WE have been BEGGING for legitimacy for DECADES and now we get it and people are up in arms because, surprise surprise there is a CHEER required for "sport" cheer.
Dear ALL all-star participants, coaches, gym owners YOUR skills are a necessity so don't freak out, embrace the recognition, be proud. Currently the next step to All-Star is college, guess what you have to do in College, CHEER! Common people OPEN your eyes. You don't have to change what we are doing now in "all-star" to still have an ICU team doing a "cheer". Guess what, IT ALREADY HAPPENS and NOTHING has changed to All-Star. The ONLY major change I see happening to All-Star is governing body will be more legitimate, and UNIVERSAL scoring.
Calm down everyone and if things do change, there will always be a place for great coaches and talented kids.

I think the best part of this is that they had to describe what motions are.

kristenthegreat I don't think the general public even knows what acro is. Nobody in my family or friends know until I show them a video.

People were crying for sport and legitimacy for an allstar style. They did not ask for this type of cheer to be a sport.

But reading into the fact it will be considered it's own sport and what I read about the IOC, cheer's first chance at being in the Olympics is 2024. Because it is a separate sport from gymnastics (and not a discipline) it is going to have a longer path to the Olympics. 2016 sport slots are already taken up and the shortlist for 2020 has already been presented. It looks like they limit to 48 sports for the Olympics. If none of them drop out for 2024 it might be 2028 or 2032 before it finally gets in.

Just for clarification: this only applies to ICU correct? Only clarifying this because I know how cheerleaders are and if cheerleaders read this and think it applies to them, all hell will break loose.

No pyramids past two and half high? Eliminating partner stunting, AND Jeff Webb signed off on it? Does this mean it's official? And all pyramids above two high have to have three bases?

Are they using the same measure for counting athletes as we are? (for us two and half high is an extended stunt, basically level 5 pyramids)

Calm down folks.... 2 1/2 high pyramids (ex. 2-2-1, 2-1-1 etc...) are collegiate level or Level 6 style pyramids you can't do those in All Star Levels 5 and below anyway (which only allows 2-high pyramids). Eliminating partner stunt means there can't be an individual "partner stunt competition" "IF" this is fully adopted by the International sports accord. The reason behind that is the international gymnastics community saw a potential future threat from the growing sport of competitive cheer. "IF" this is accepted/adopted whatever you want to call it gymnastics wanted to make sure there were not aspects of competition that were the same as what they're already doing. Gymnastics already has an "acro" competition which is what we'd call partner stunt. This does not mean in the actual team performances you can't do partner stunt skills. Also one thing that will not be included are individual tumbling competitions, again b/c gymnastics is already doing something like this.

And kingston you're correct another sport would have to drop out or be dropped before cheer could actually be added to the Olympics. Which is another reason why this would be in the World games before the Olympics. Basically all sports that are not in the Olympics and some that are compete in the world games.

So it's basically UCA college nationals, without flipping baskets or rewinds if I'm reading it right
