I wish I had you guys for parents. I love my parents but they make little to no effort to go to competitions or games even. I've been cheering for 8 years and my mom has been to 2 competitions and 3 games... and I cheer high school so my competitions are 2 hours away and the very most. I would kill to have my mom judge the other teams for me.

In Box me when your at the next competition GBE is at.... I would LOVE to be your support team along with my girls!!! I never miss my girls competitions, and make a lot of sacrafices to do so. I try to cheer for ALL the team, since were all in this together :) love the sport! xoxo

I don't get to watch our divisions because I'm always in warm ups or awards or something. I LOVE the moms that track our divisions and give me their opinions. Now I'm thinking I need to train some of them to "judge" and actually score so we can get an even better prediction hahaha.
lol. We have a cheer dad who's had daughters on my team for 4 years now. He knew nothing about cheerleading. Last year at nationals I was shocked when he came up after our performance and gave me a full (non-biased) completely dead on recap of the entire division and he had his placing guesses down perfectly. This year I am very tempted to give him a stack of score sheets and let him go at it!

Well my parents can't afford to go to all travel competitions, they make a lot of sacrifices to even buy just my plane ticket.

I think this is a case where people understand why your parents cannot come. I think the posters above were referring to the parents who don't go to competitions because they don't "want" to.

WorkToWin You are very lucky to have such wonderful parents!! Hug them before you get on the airplane and tell them "Thank you". I am sure they wish they could be there with you!

I used to do that through texts back and forth with the coaching staff, but I honestly think I annoyed them more than I helped them.

Okay, über nerd alert. I printed the scoring grid for each competition, made my own judging grids that would fit two to a page with the appropriate deduction numbers etc. so I could hash mark as I watched, had my own shorthand for what stunts, jumps, judged the varsity 0.1-1.0 technique category. It gave me something to do..I'm far too analytical for my own good.

The thing of it is....I actually ended up being pretty good at it! By the end of the season I was not only getting ours in the right positions, but usuually got the whole division in the right order. I was best on a varsity scoresheet. The jury is out on whether my kids liked it. There were times where I'd missed some quirky thing..especially on universal spirits whacked out score sheet, where I thought they did better than they did and that could get upsetting. I totally missed their "all passes end in layout" in order to score as a "level 4" pass they had to end in layout. So our junior four that threw 8 bhs, whip, bhs bhs tuck didn't count as a level four pass and we got no points for that section of the sheet.

You know....cause whips aren't level four or anything.

But to answer your question, I haven't seen the new grids yet and I've been looking. Just the other day I was looking for CHEERSPORT's new grid and I haven't seen it yet. Not sure if I'll go to all that trouble this year (last season I scored every team in every division our gym had a team in) I know I won't be doing all that because it was like "working" at a competition and im not doing that anymore, but I'll probably not be able to NOT score my kids divisions. I just like some explanation for placements (good or bad) and I can usually get it from my own watching and notes and be able to explain things to my kids.

OMG...you are my hero.

There is a big difference with parents who cant and those that choose not to. I give huge props to all parents who make sacrafices for their kids- which is just about every parent on here- BUT those parents that CHOOSE to not see their child compete because they dont like cheer then they are truely loosing out on quality time with their kid!

Just gonna say that the additional $500 a season it would cost for my husband and other child to attend competitions to watch our CP is cost prohibitive. That doesn't include travel costs, that's just to get them in the door...its not because we don't love her and wouldn't love for us all to be there...its just that we love her enough to want to send her to college too. ;)

With the talk of the updated varsity rules and now this comment, I was thinking that getting some parents trained would be a great idea!
