Wow you guys think 140,000 miles is a lot? My dads Ford Focus had 320,000 miles- no exaggeration. He ended up buying a new car and junked the Focus. No one wants a car with 320,000 miles on it haha

Thats awsome! I'd love to have an older car with low miles, no payments! Just gotta keep maintaining
It's great having a car with no payments to worry about since it came from another family member, just had to put new tires on it and get the fluids changed since it sat for like 3 years, but now it runs like a champ. One of my friends thought it was a great idea to trade in an '09 Toyota Corolla (fully paid off, was a gift from her grandparents) with only about 30k miles on it for a leased Volkswagen Jetta.. like what?!?! I find it crazy to take an almost brand new car that you own with no payments in for a leased car.. but maybe I'm weird, lol.

So weird, we don't have that! In WI, you can drive with anybody but you can only have one other passenger (who isn't family) with you for 9 months.
in illinois similar - for a year after just getting your license. also license is invalid an hour before curfew.

I totally agree, that's crazy! Especially if she's younger, like you're not expected to have a brand new car. Plus if you're in high school/college you're going to be around other used cars and bad drivers. Also being young you're more likely to get in an accident. Just seems ridiculous to me.

Here in Florida you can take your permit test at 15. No class required. You used to be able to do it all online but people were cheating so now it's at the DMV. You take a 4 hour drug and alcohol test (which I believe you can still do online) then the actual permit tests.. One consisting of road rules and one consisting of road signs. Once you get your permit you can drive with an adult (i believe 21+) and you have to have night driving before you can get your license.

To get your license you can take a course although it's not required. It does help though. Most people do it through the school. I didn't and I wish I did because I do not know how to parallel park, back into a space, or what to do if I loose control of the vehicle on a slippery road. My mom had someone come to the house and teach me. He taught me the test and that was all.

However, I love my car! I have an '05 Ford Focus SES ZX4 :) It runs very well! The only work I had to do was replacing the passenger side engine mount (it deflated and was making the engine vibrate more than necessary) and getting a tire patched after running over a nail. I have pirelli tires (racing tires) on mine and my ex was always jealous because his Fiesta had Handcocks.

Kelly, It didn't break down, just took 5 or 6 tries to start the engine. Normally it only takes 1 or 2 key turns to start up. My BF said it needs new spark plugs, plus it was almost out of gas LOL and quite chilly outside. Just glad it wasn't a dead battery!

What kind of car do you drive?

Yeah hate car trouble, and paying for repairs!
My sister is away at college so I am driving her car, 2001 chevy cavalier, or my Mom's 2006 Honda Pilot SUV. The cavalier is great, runs wayy better than the Honda, which for me never starts on the first time. But I don't think I ever hold the key at "start" long enough either, so its not really the car's fault:rolleyes:. That thing is great for hauling everyone around to games, we always carpool to home games in it. I'm stealing it from my when she gets a new one this year!

In missouri, you can get your permit (if you pass a written test) at 15. You have to have it for 6 months before you can get your license, and it's valid for a year before you have to renew it. but you can get your license at 16, if you have had 40 driving hours with a parent/guardian, and 10 of them must be night hours. Lots of people don't get their permit right away because you only really have to have it for 6 months.
Then if you get your license, you can only have 1 other person in the car who's not your family for 6 months.... there are other rules but i'm not 100% sure.... because I only have my permit right now!

My dad bought me a 2008 Green Hyundai Sonata that I share with my mom. If she desperately needs the car though, I'm forced to drive my dad's 2006 Top Banana Dodge Daytona Charger. (; Woe is me.
The only reason I got the Hyundai is because it was an even trade for my blazer & my moms pt cruiser and I'm going to need it next year seeing as my school is over an hour away.. My dads always been obbsessed with cars so I guess it sort of rubbed off.

Here in canada you are able to take a written test at 16 which grants you what we call a G1 license (beginners). With your G1 you must be driving with someone who has had their G license (full license) for 4 years. You can take a road test for you G2 after 8 months of having your G1 IF you took a drivers class which consists of 10 hours in class and 10 hours on the road with your instructor, but this is completely optional (most do it) if you dont do it, you must wait at least a year to take your road test.

With your G2 you can drive w/o another person, and can have as many passengers as working seatbelts

After I think another year of having your G2 you can take another road test to get you G, your final full license.

ETA: I just got my G2 yesterday! yay! :D

I got a new Ford Focus for my 16th birthday this year. I've had it for only 7 months and I've already put 14,000 miles on it :O I commute an hour and a half to school every day, but luckily my all star gym is literally a mile away so I don't drive extra to get there :p but the problem is my car is a lease and I'm only supposed to put 12000 miles a year on it! What happens when I take the car back when my lease is up and I have probably double the miles allowed on it? Has anyone had a similar situation?

You'll have to pay for the extra miles. The contract will have the rate for anything above what was signed.

agreed, my moms Honda SUV was a lease and she put 14,000 miles more than her limit. So pretty much was forced to buy it. But I will be taking it to college when she gets a new one:p
