Quick Question: i am thinking about doing PSEO next year and i was wondering if that helps your chances in getting into college or hurt them? i know my friend didn't get into OSU (ohio state) because she did PSEO because they would have rather her not take the courses yet. Has anyone ever done this? Is it helpful?

A lot of my friends from the public school in my town do PSEO. Don't quote me on this but I would think it'd make you more likely to get in because the college can see that you challenge yourself and are smart enough to take college classes. It's basically the same as AP classes and all colleges want to see those on transcripts. I would take advantage of it if I were you. I really wanted to do it this year but my school refused to work with me on it so now I feel like I'm held back.

Also I don't think the credits transfer out of state but all in state schools will/should accept them.

I was wondering if someone could help me out with something. I'm a Sophomore in high school, but I really just don't understand majors in colleges. No one has really talked to us about it... I want to be a pediatrician, would that be a pre-med major? Also, just wondering what schools would be best for that..

Your major is what majority of your classes are focused on. Most people who want to go to medical school major in Biology, Chemistry, Biochem, or some other science, though technically you can major in anything as long as you take the courses required by med schools (2 Bio, 2 Gen Chem, 2 O Chem, 2 English, 1 Math for most).

In terms of what schools are best for pre-med, you want to find a balance between a school that has a good academic reputation and a school you can get a high GPA at. Like someone said earlier about pre-law, someone with a 4.0 from a state school will be looked more highly upon than the person with a 2.5 from Harvard. The biggest thing I would look for would be a school with a Health Professions Advising Committee (or something to that extent.. not sure if all schools call it the same thing). When you apply for medical school, most schools prefer it if you submit a "committee composite" rather than individual letters of recommendation. Plus, they are really helpful for setting up outside activities like shadowing and hospital volunteering.

I just finished the med school application process (successfully!!) so I could go on and on about all the things I wish I'd done to make life easier!! I'll stop myself, but if anyone is thinking med school, feel free to ask me any questions! Would love to help my fellow cheer premeds :)

here's my dilemma, do I major in nursing because the schools I'm looking at do offer it as a major, or do I major in a science then go to nursing school?

take it from someone who has a bachelor degree and is now going back to school to become a nurse... if you know that you want to be a nurse, the sooner you are able to start, the better.

like for pre med, for example you can get a BS in, say Bio, and then you go to medical school and get your MD or go to grad school and get a masters degree in something else. nursing doesn't work that way. (meaning you can't have a bachelors degree in something and go to grad school to get a masters in nursing. you need the associates or bachelors first and you can't skip steps) so, like me, you'd end up working backwards.

*unless of course you are getting an associate's degree in a science field and then a bachelor's in nursing. in that case, ignore everything i've just said.

and if any of this sounds confusing feel free to PM me!

thank you! I just really wanted to make sure that I was doing the right thing by saying my major is nursing when filling out my apps! I want to become a registered nurse and then specialize in pediatrics or anesthesiology, do you by any chance have any idea how that works?

some schools may work differently, but i can tell you my current plan which will hopefully give you a little insight.

i will be getting my BS Nursing from an undergraduate program. Then, i will be applying to graduate school for a master's degree to become a nurse practitioner, which is where you are allowed to choose a specialty. (which are usually general family/pediatrics/anesthesiologist/OBGYN/School Nursing)

I, personally, have not come across any schools that allow you to choose a specialty as an undergrad, but maybe there are some out there that i haven't seen. the postgrad degree allows you to really focus in on one topic, such as pediatrics, which the undergrad programs don't normally have time to do in 4 years.

hope that helps a little!

yes thank you! it has helped a lot! I have a much better idea of what I'm getting myself into now haha

I applied to ECU in October, and my pirate port account has said "decision made" for about two weeks now. Today I logged on to check again, and now it says 'final high school transcript' in the check list. Does that mean I got accepted?

This is an ACT question... But when you're signing up online for your ACT, you can chose to automatically send your score to 4 colleges of your choice for free... How does that work and do you reccommend it? It's only my 1st time taking it in February and I'm only a junior so I'm not sure if I should send them or not or if its only for seniors or what..

it definitely sounds like it, since if you weren't accepted they wouldn't need your final transcripts. i'd call just to be sure or at least find out when they mailed your letter.
