All-Star Dangers Of Cheerlebrity

I think it's being viewed as a bad thing because it's putting athletes that are "cheerlebrities" for their actual skills in the same boat as those that are on social media asking people to follow and like them.

It's like the difference between Gweneth Paltrow being famous for her acting and Paris Hilton being famous for, well, being famous.

I think its healthy for adults to want to protect kids and manage this issue. But people that hate the Cheerlebrity stuff because they think 'its not fair' or that other athletes deserve to be on the pedestal more than the ones currently on the pedestal come across more jealous than they do concerned for the well-being and positive growth atmosphere for today's youth. And that perspective mainly comes from kids.

Why wouldn't a normal teenage kid get online and beg for followers? I do it, and I'm 35 (insert self proclaimed shimmy GIF here).

I agree with you to a point because I've seen plenty of "adults" who in my mind hide behind the veil of "protecting the kids" when really they're just upset that they have none of these talented kids in their gym.

As for the begging for followers, of course kids are going to do it. It's us as parents that need to make sure we teach our kids to use the internet properly and safely. Begging for followers in my mind is not safe, to many weirdos in this world for me.

I shimmied this post for the same reason I retweet you... In hopes that in being connected (somehow) to a Cheerlebrity that I too will seem important. Haha. Isn't that how all of this got started anyway?!?!?

Social media has changed things, times are different. We have cell phones, not rotary dial house phones, times change. Seems like a fairly normal progression for this day and age and as the love for the sport continues to grow.
Remember these are actual kids being bashed, kids that have real feelings.
My cp is not on a level 5 team yet or a cheerlebrity by any means but the ones she knows and admires are not only amazing cheerleaders they are dedicated, excellent students, involved in their churches and or community. When they are in the gym they work just as hard as everyone else. They also are encouraging to other athletes. It was very inspiring for cp when one recently told her they had seen her in a stunt private and how awesome she looked. That young lady or "cheerlebrity" didn't have to go out of her way to do that, but she did. They are also very respectful to their parents and other adults. I would much rather cp admire someone like that than a host of other "personalities" available in the world today that she could pick from.

However, I do have a question for BlueCat ...

While your gym has signed that "No Cheerleberities" pledge, why are CA athletes host the Varsity "Cheerlebrity" event?

Refer to Cheerupdates and CSP on twitter if you dont know what I am talking about.

Twitter / cheerUPDATES: Following Gyms listed as already ...

We have had our athletes pull themselves from future engagements with that particular group. It was our opinion that having them cancel their appearance in Pittsburgh on a few days' notice would not have been fair to the organizers of the event.

:cheerathletics: How can CA be no cheerlebrities when no other than Blue Cat is there?? :cheerathletics:

I believe there are two very different mentalities when it comes to "celebrity" in general. From my perspective it is normal to admire someone's ability or talents, however, to seek out an autograph or pic with a stranger because, they can act, sing, or do a wicked tumble pass or stunt is a bazaar behavior, to me. I, personally, want to be able to go to a venue and be able to get from point A to point B without having to fight a crowd of a couple hundred kids wanting an autograph from "Joe" because he is from gym "X", cute, and has amazing toe touches (sarcasm but, let's face it, that's what's happening). These places are crowded, often have narrow hallways and have the sides taped off for teams. There are many little ones at these events that are in risk of being separated from parents, or worse, knocked down and trampled. There are people on crutches, in wheel chairs and elderly. There are special need teams and children where this type of excitement is over stimulating and makes it difficult for them to cope. It is not only the "cheerlebrity" that is at risk of being hurt.

I respect marketing and self expression, however, I also, believe those of us that find it goofy, a potential cost increase, and dangerous deserve the same respect. Take these meet and greets to a different facility where there is room and people have the choice of being part of it.

just an fyi, I am not against them hosting at all. I think it will only help the event and make more money and is great marketing for AllStar Cheerleaing. I think people over analyze cheerleberities and I also think that its not as big of a problem as the fierceboard makes it to be. I just wanted to hear your response to the Twitter posts made because obviously CSP was directing it at you.

No matter what happens, Jamie, Blake, Matt, Peyton, etc. will all be fan favorites for years to come. They seem to love it (usually), so I think people should let it be and leave it up to their parents to decide what to do.

while i think her intentions with this article were in the right place and very kind-hearted... i don't like the fact that all 20 kids first and last names were just published... bring on the stalkers.

They were already posted elsewhere. Check the above link.

Gabi is the most kind hearted girl I know. She is so good to my daughter. We are friends with them and no one stalks us or mobs us. If any kid is as ordinary as can be, it is Gabi.

to be fair, i have an issue with the Majors publishing it as well. first initial of the last name would be more than sufficient. it allows anyone and everyone to know the minors first and last name (with proper spelling) making it way to simple to type that name into facebook, instagram, twitter, google, and everywhere and anywhere else and learn every detail of their life.

not an issue with Gabi at all. i commended her on the article... but iC could have edited those last names out of the article.

Agreed but Gabi didn't do anything that wasn't already done and I am sure the parents gave permission for their names to be public.
