All-Star Cover Up Rule And Awards

I just hate how sloppy some teams look when covered up when gyms don't have specific gym wear. You end up with all these girls having mis matched track pants messy hair from the tshirts being pulled over it just looks bad.

I don't think this is necessarily an issue from the rule though. You don't have to wear pants. And people wore shirts/pants over the uniforms before this rule happened anyway - not as much as they do now, of course. I wear a t-shirt over my uni and leggings under my skirt because it's cold in convention centers. And I'm old and can't pull body positions when I'm cold.

Our gym has team warm ups and strict rules about what they can wear with their uniform (no uggs, slippers, PJ bottoms, etc) at any point while wearing their uniform. I did go back to the original email sent at the beginning of the season and it does say for awards they should look like how they competed which I assume means uniform (no warm up). But I have noticed a trend that they seem to all wear their warm up jackets to awards as well. I guess this is because they are probably walking around before awards. But I agree that post-award pictures would be nice in their uniforms. This past weekend they had their warm ups on for pictures - probably no one thought about it. I will say I think they always look neat and professional.
yeah my argument is more towards the gyms that don't have regulated warmups, and your left with kids who can't buy them (250 for warmups? Yeah don't think so) or kids who don't want them. I will say though I do love seeing kids walk around groomed properly in their gym pants (not track pants more like the button up pants they had in the 90's) and nice warm up jackets with their bows and makeup and hair done

i suppose hate is a strong word. The guideline annoys and frustrates me, mostly for selfish reasons.
1) I pd a lot of $$ for that uni and think its very attractive and tasteful. It bugs me that it has to be covered by a $20 poly jacket (in our case - i know some gyms have use t-shirts).
2) It's such a backwards way of thinking to me. By saying "cover up" that says to me "you're dressed inappropriately". If it's good enough for the mat - it should be good enough to be worn around the venue. If it's not ok to walk around in - then it's JUST NOT OK. That's where I'm coming from. I have no problem with youth and jr going to covered tummies - heck i don't really have a problem with all divisions doing it. BUT if the rule isn't in effect yet and it doesn't apply to senior division anyway - why do I have to cover up a $400 uni?

I think that cheer uniforms are only appropriate in the context of a cheer competition. I don't think they're appropriate, particularly crop tops, to be worn out in public - in a mall, hotel, theme park, whatever - all the places that are often attached to a competition venue. Yes, you could argue that if you're in the venue you should be able to wear your crop top, but those girls tend not to cover up when they leave the venue. The competition I was at in Providence this weekend is attached to a mall, and in prior years I've seen girls running around the mall in their crop tops. That's no okay. I'm sorry. So if telling a girl she has to put a t-shirt over her crop top when she's not competing stops that from happening, then I don't really have a problem with it personally. It's also important to remember that sometimes we're not the only event going on in a convention center.

honey, you aren't old if you are pulling any body position

I retired my dorito scorpion a few years ago ;)

totally agree, i hate the rule. i just don't see what the big deal is about having the kids not have a cover up on while IN the convention center hall. if they are walking around outside of the hall then throw something on but otherwise what is the big deal? i have no pics of cp in her uniform because she always has a shirt on and don't get a chance to really see other teams uniforms because they are covered.

Our entire program have a uniform jacket. They wear the jackets until they have to report to the warmup area after they perform jackets are back on until awards. They are not allowed to take them off at any other point in is the rule, and is inforced at our gym.

same at our gym, and although I don't like it ~ we respectfully follow it.

I was primarily referring to inside the comp itself. My CP will frequently cover up because she's chilly or whatever anyway - and she covers completely when outside of the venue. A previous poster referred to pics - and i admit that is my primary hang up with this rule. My CP happens to be one of those pleasers that wants to follow the rules, and when i asked her yesterday to take off her jacket so that I could snap a few pics - she was genuinely afraid of "getting caught". It drives me crazy that we live in a day and age where common sense is lost and everything has to have a rule.

^^^ i dont know what i did wrong and why it looks like that!! I'm not yelling or drawing emphasis - i swear lol!
