WOW! Really impressed with ICE Queens! As a former die hard GW fan it takes a lot for me to admit any Canadian team is in the same league as Sharks but the Queens are giving me everything this season.

Someone posted before that Canadian teams often look very sloppy and I couldn't agree MORE! It is one of my biggest frustrations! I really don't know what it is. Either the technique just isn't there or the full out quota isn't being met or they are just cracking under pressure. VAS has just blown this stigma out of the water. That was a very well executed routine and in the videos above you can see that their stunting technique is definitely there.

I can't wait to see more and more from them as they continue to develop into the level (I believe this is only their second or third year in IAG5? Could be wrong though). Liz is obviously a very positive coach who expects the best from her athletes and it is really paying off for them.

The standard has been set. I can't wait to see more Canadian teams pulling off routines like this one at Worlds this year!

I have to agree completely. Even with the success a few Canadian teams have had internationally, I think VAS this year is the first Canadian team to me that doesn't look "Canadian"

Just a note about Cheerleading on the east coast: Like the rest of the country it is exploding here and there are some amazing teams! the population is much smaller so of course we won't have massive sized gyms, but we hold our own at nationals! Canadian nationals attendance isn't so much about the distance, it's the time of year (for many) its late for us, and also he same weekend as NB high school provincials which limits teams sometimes.
I personally have brought my gym to Nationals for 7 straight years (this will be our 8th) and we have won titles the last 3. Programs from NS have won titles as well over the last 2 years, and the maritimes have had great showings there in the vast majority of cases. We are not really considered "just from the east" anymore. And as for cost, our kids can do a trip to Nationals for 5 days, (travel and hotel and regustration) for about $500. It takes forever on the bus and we travel overnight but it isn't difficult and there is probably about a dozen teams coming from the east this year. (I'm bringing 4)
Just trying to spread some east coast knowledge ;)

And you got to come to Ontario and see me so that's an obvious upside to Nationals.

this. more or less this is what i meant in the first place, Canadian cheer is starting to really step up their abilities to be able to compete with US teams at worlds, but frankly in my opinion in order for Canadian teams to do well at words i believe they have to stay within the international division. not to slam any gyms but i feel like Canadian teams have a knack for putting out routines that aren't polished, sloppy, and have terrible timing due to feeling the need to rush through everything. but compared to what cheerleading was like when i started in 2005 we are leaps and bounds ahead of where we use to be and im so proud of every gym i've seen in recent years because they have grown so much.
The coach/owner discusses this in Ep. 4! She talks about how they have to really field and train, coach their athletes to get them to a level to compete against US teams. US athletes tend to start young, and get those level 5 skills really early. In most international teams, you get girls who start later in life (teen-ish in age) and don't have any tumbling experience.
