So...no CEA in Brooklyn?

No Level 5 Athlete is going to go to leave their gym for some brand new no name gym. Let's be honest, everyone dreams of competing in that CEA uniform. It would finally give these athletes incentive to band together. I do see the downside though, the local gyms will most likely go under. However, this new CEA location will need a knowledgeable & seasoned staff

Let's be honest NOT everyone! ;)

i know the new gym is charlotte and technically, no new location expansions have been confirmed to be happening...

to those "angry" about the potential Pitt location - just out of curiosity, if this coach just went and opened her own no-name facility when Gym A decided they no longer wanted her services, would there be such an uproar? or is the issue only because she'll be bringing in the big guns? just wondering.

As a native Pittsburgher who cheered at two of the biggest gyms in the Burgh, I think this is a FANTASTIC idea! My sister and I always used to talk about how amazing it would be for all the Pittsburgh gyms to unite and create one Mega-Gym that would actually be able to compete with the big dogs (CA, World Cup, CEA, etc.). Pittsburgh & Northern WV have some amazing talent (Have you seen Brooke HS?) that goes unrecognized because it's spread out between 5 gyms. For one big super-gym to open & become successful in Pittsburgh, there has to be a big name behind it. No Level 5 Athlete is going to go to leave their gym for some brand new no name gym. That's exactly what I was thinking!! I hope someone realized the talent that Cheeeleaders in this area
have and how it needs to be under one roof!!

Okay, okay ...MOST people :)

I do not think anyone should be angry about anyone opening up a new facility. Cheer is a business. Plain and simple. If you want better kids and more revenue, bring your A game. You can't keep doing the same thing and just expect everyone to like it.

This coach that is now at CEA was an outstanding person and coach when she was at Hotcheer. She helped out many kids over her coaching career That being said, there are also a lot of other good coaches at Hotcheer and other gyms in Pittsburgh.

There are different business models. Some gyms only want to win. Others care more about the kids. The best model is probably somewhere in between.

I will take a wait and see attitude on this development. I like my gym, but we all need to do the best for our kids in the long run.

What really bothers me about this whole expansion into the Pittsburgh area, especially from being a veteran pittsburgh athlete, is the fact that Cheer Extreme already has almost every single level 5 division (even multiple of the same division). So what is the point? I hate seeing when teams have to compete against themselves or have to exhibition due to the in-program dupicate teams... I feel as if it would be smarter for CEA to buy out a dying program and completely turn it around, rather than open up a whole new gym. There are too many gyms with the Pittsburgh area already, and athletes within the area are normally very loyal to their home gyms as a whole.
So all in all, i just do not approve of opening up ANOTHER gym. It will be useless and irrelevant to the area.
Just my opinion...

Stcchamp. I see your point, but CEA would force the gyms in the area to step it up or lose some of their business. I like my gym, but we all need to continue to improve and innovate for the sake of our kids. I want my kid to win, but I also want my kid to learn to work as a team and learn life skills. These things are more important than winning.

A CEA gym would likely focus on level 5, but they would also bring in level 4/3 athletes to build up their pipeline to their level 5 teams. As stated many times in this thread, it would not be for everybody.

Two other gyms in Pittsburgh are rumored to be merging anyway. The competitive landscape will be decided by who wants to innovate and change and who does not.

In the end, it is all about what is best for the kids. Some teams/gyms/coaches/parents lose sight of this. Any parent going to any gym needs to carefully scrutinize the program and its history, along with where it is going in the future.
