Hey everyone! My collegiate team in northern wisconsin just got back from competing at a national competition... (grand champs!!) Our approach to cheerleading is not the traditional college look.... We take on an allstar mentality for our team. Our routines do not have a cheer, nor do we ever use poms, signs, or megaphones. (We still partner stunt, but defiantly incorporate quad stunts) We go to allstar competitions, and compete on a 9-panel spring floor for the majority of the season. While our uniforms look more classic, we tend to compete with glitter makeup or heavy eyeshadow, and do our hair in a way that you see with allstar teams. Bows are to the front, big, and glitzy. Personally, I come from an allstar background, and love the approach. I feel though that this is a rarity, and most college teams that I see do the exact opposite of what we do. I wanted to know what your thoughts were about this, and if you guys have been on a college team like this before?

Which WI team are you on? I'm guessing Eau Claire.

We're more "traditional college" team I guess you could say. We don't compete, although I miss it like crazy I'm not even sure where we'd find time for it. I've successfully brought to big cheer bow to football games, but we didn't get them for basketball, stuck with ribbons tied into a bow :( I don't think there's anything wrong with you guys being more "all star" but I'll probably always prefer the more traditional style. I just think for competitions college teams should still have a cheer because that's what we are supposed to do, lead the crowd at games. But I'm not against ones that don't. Just my personal preference.

I cheer in Philly at saint josephs university and we're pretty traditional, in fact our school prides itself off of tradition. But I came from allstar and so did a few other people on my team. We compete NCA in April so it's similar to an allstar routine, we only do a 45 second cheer the first day of comp and during finals it's all music. And we compete in the intermediate division amso we aren't far from allstar routines. We are judged on collegiate image so there's no crazy make up or bows or anything but coming from allstar I don't mind competing at NCA because its not so different from what I'm used to. Although I would love it if we competed as an allstar team I love competing on a college level.
