We sat down and talked with the parents of my youth team last night expecting them to say "No" after we estimated it would be $1700 per athlete (which includes one parent). There was some skepticism at first but I guess they all brainstormed and talked eachother in to it during practice because when I came out afterwards they had numbers worked out and were estimating that it will be $14,000 that they need to raise (we only have 8 girls) as a group. I don't see how they will be able to do this and I really hope we can upgrade to the paid bid this next weekend in Oregon but I'm excited they are willing to go. It's a huge opportunity for them.

Are you going to be there?

Well anyone who knows me at my gym know that our senior 3 fierce boas is my favorite team-

I swear I'm on that team. Anyone at NCA especially day 2 that watched them in hall B that saw a girl going crazy and running and jumping when they hit that was me!!! Lol

But unfortunately no I will not be there and ill be with my daughter whose team is not going because they had an at large bid. However my heart will be there is the most amazing team represents us!:) lol

You and I sound earily similiar. I actually scared my 15 year old when my 11 year olds team won. After a brief jump around session I turned around and saw her looking at me as if to say, "you nuts". This one had to be one of my favorite wins. I'll make sure we help cheer your fierce boas on!

I'm curious, does anyone know the criteria used when selecting which teams receive paid bids versus at large bids ? And, does the criteria vary based upon the competition awarding it ? Also, if a team has been awarded a paid bid and turned it down, does that preclude them from receiving any future offers of a paid bid at other events ?

Every comp has its own bid declaration. Usually it's posted somewhere on their website.

I'm sure you're aware that the paid bid only covers the housing, park admission and transportation for one child. The flight still has to be paid for as well as all other expenses for anyone else going so yes it is typically about finances.
The kids weren't aware of this competition until very close to NCA but nothing formal was discussed within the gym. After we recieved our bids we then met to determine who wanted to go and gave everyone all the information needed to make that decision. Who ever decides not to go we will simply adjust the routine accordingly or open it up to others within the gym. I guess my kids would be a little disappointed but I would be fine with it. I enjoy Disney but would like to spend that money on a vacation that didn't involve a cheer competition.
Thanks for your reply. Yes we know what the paid bid covers, but it is a big savings!! We are able to drive, we would get a charter bus. It would be a long drive but we are from Georgia so its doable, unless there was some great airfares.

In your situation I can totally understand if your gym never had a formal discussion about the bids until NCA- but for us we were aware at tryouts that we would go to summmit and to budget for that. So after recieving an AL bid most were let down. I wish we had done what you said your team was doing, filling the spots left. Its been a learning lesson and times are tough for a lot of people. Just disappointed. We have one more shot for a Paid bid in a few weeks.

I wonder how many teams, when first getting a bid said they were going and are now changing their minds. I reason I ask, is that there is a gym in Phoenix that just got a AL bid last week from Spirit Sport Duel in the Desert (that was over a month ago.) I assume that other gyms have decided not to go and they are passing down the bids. It will be interesting to see how it goes.
