Well hopefully that means I'll be making more bows then :)

Supposedly she is making an announcement in the next couple days of bow makers she reccommends to take her place. I have never had a bad experience with her and she always sent cp extra bows with our orders but I stopped ordering when I started making my own and the shipping time was outrageous. When I first started ordering from YR it was the usual ground shipping, the last time I ordered I had to pay extra just to get it in two weeks. That's hard to market when other companies are so much quicker.

I've not really marketed myself. Don't even have a website...but I keep busy with bows and shirts and other assorted bling via word of mouth. I have bought and taken apart several bow makers bows and every time I do I feel like mine are better put together from one aspect or the other. I've seen bows at comps selling for up to $30 that didn't even have sealed tails!! Deadlines are challenging. I've pulled more than a couple of all nighters this year just to make sure a team had their bows or shirts in time for an occasion. Making a good quality bow isn't rocket silence but it helps to have a systematic method of construction and its important to not cut corners I've found. There are many creative bow makers out there. I've seen some very nice designs this year. :)

I just tried to buy some of her mystery bows - but $60 shipping to New Zealand is just rediculous! I've never been charged anything like that before. I can easily get most (light) things I want for under $20 shipping!

Must be shipping ups or FedEx. When I send care packages to Afghanistan I do it through the flat rate box at the postal service for $15. And that's for the biggest box.

We just bought a pair if nfinitys at the CHEERSPORT pro shop for a cheerleader in Sweeden that can't find them there. We shipped them via postal service (not in a flat rate box.... didn't fit) with some of our gym tees for $60 but it would have benn $240 for ups??

Wait...is the $60 just for shipping? Or does it include the price of the bows too? Either way that's ridiculous.

International shipping increased (about doubled for lighter items) at the end of January. I know I had to make some painful changes in my Etsy shop, and my international sales tanked for about a month. They have bounced back this month though, so I guess my international customers have just accepted that it costs what it costs.

Charging $60 for shipping to NZ is off the charts, though. I'm guesstimating that bows are about 3 oz each packed for shipping, so the price for sending 3 to NZ from the US should run about $14.30 with USPS retail pricing. One issue with sending international orders via UPS, FedEx or DHL is that not only is the base cost higher, the companies also tack on huge processing fees upon delivery for taking the items through customs. I'm sure it's rather unpleasant to get a knock on the door asking for an extra $50 for your package. Not saying that is what Yella is doing, as I don't know anything about her or her business.

I get FedX & DHL from Asia all the time and I've only paid over $35 once and that was when I bought a roll of transfer tape that was so large I'm still using it 2yrs later!!!

I ordered the 3 for $30 mystery bows (I'm half expecting worlds 2008 bows). I'm excited to have somewhere that I can purchase just a few yards of quality ribbon, but if the shipping is still around $10 I might just fuse my own.

Sent from The Fierce Board App!

Nope, just for shipping! I've bought a bit of cheer gear in the last couple of years online as we can't get anywhere near the same range (if at all) as the US. Even shoes haven't cost me that much to ship! Most things take 2-3 weeks whichever method of shipping the seller has used. I was really looking forward ordering, but my mom makes bows, so it looks like I'll have to stick with those for the moment.

Not related to bows...but I ordered a skincare item from Israel and they had free shipping! The item itself was 54 bucks..but considering how much I've seen some U.S. retailers charge for shipping within the U.S...I was a happy camper. And I fully expected it to take a while bc of customs AND the area it came from, but it only took about 3 weeks. So yeah, 60 bucks seems like a lot for a few bows

Seriously with all these shipping costs? I make bow and shipping for a bow is 1.50€ which is $2. This is why I ship for free. I once sent 5 bows to a girl and shipping was 5€ which is arounf $7. I am talking about shipping to USA. And it only takes a week to get it.
