I'm curious, does anyone know the criteria used when selecting which teams receive paid bids versus at large bids ? And, does the criteria vary based upon the competition awarding it ? Also, if a team has been awarded a paid bid and turned it down, does that preclude them from receiving any future offers of a paid bid at other events ?

We were told (and this is in regards to Spirit Cheer only, not sure about the other EP's) that they they have a set number of bids per division/category to hand out across all of their nationals. Once all of their set number of Youth 1's are handed out, they are gone for the rest of their upcoming events.

We called and talked to someone after the Nationals in Washington because some of the teams that recieved bids seemed pretty random when compared to other divisions in that level. We found out that certain divisions were already "out" for that EP. I totally understand why they are doing this but it was disappointment to find out that some of our teams didn't even have a chance just because they didn't have anymore bids for the division they were in.

is there an Updated list on the website yet?? My small 4.2 & small coed 3 received at-large bids from spirit sports but we declined them!

it's too much $$ & also during prom!

I believe world cup infinity received an at-large bid at athletic championships providence. Does anyone know if they are actually attending the summit?

This is where I think that summit just wasn't all that well thought out. On one hand, if it wasn't done like this, you could end up with whole divisions with no teams at summit. But it is really unfair for teams to pay for a competition offering summit bids but unknowingly having absolutely no chance to get one.

Part of me feels that summit was an idea conceived by Disney. They seem to have the most to gain.

Also, I wonder what the percentage of at large bids are being rejected. It seems to be pretty high.

I just hate the idea that the summit is supposed to be the "best of the best", but for financial reasons will likely end up "the best of those who can afford to pay or who live close to Orlando". A full paid bid doesn't come close to covering all the costs for a West Coast(and other teams who need to fly to Orlando) team, much less the parent(s) that will accompany the team member. And yes, with younger kids (compared to Worlds) the idea of sending your kid alone to save money, is a lot less feasible.

Anyway, I just hope they do something to ensure plenty of competition across the board in all divisions. I know we've all been to too many competitions where that title was won by default.

isn't worlds the same way? The only reason I was argue against it is because worlds team plan on getting a bid and fundraising all year for it. The summit is new so we didn't think to do that until to late. Lesson learned for next year.

The at large's are worth $541 per kid or something around there. We estimated for our youth team it would be approx $1700 per kid which includes one parent with them. Yes $550 isn't even half but it also a fairly decent amount saved. For an older athlete that doesn't need a parent there, $541 would be a much bigger help.

I'm guessing Worlds started out much the same but has since earned the prestige to make it so you know that you will no doubt be competing against the very best in the entire country/world.

Very true, if summit is a successful comp that continues I'm sure it'll get there eventually too.

What does a paid bid for the summit cover? I was just wondering because my gym is in California and i have a hard time believing we would ever get to go if travel wasnt covered.
