I didn't realize Cheer Athletics was all the way up in Plano. I had always thought they were in the Coppell area for some reason.

CYC Raiders from Kenosha, WI started in 1987. According to their website they did start as competitive program that year, but had to team up with a local rec program because they were required to cheer for a sport team in order to compete:

"Dorothy Wentland established the competitive CYC Raiders All Star cheerleading program with only 10 cheerleaders in 1987 - when the competitive sport of all star cheerleading was fairly new. At that time, there were was a requirement that competing teams actually cheered for a sport team (!) and we partnered up with a local sports program to fulfill that requirement - we cheered at their recreation football games. Even after that rule faded out, we had our little ones cheering at youth football games for our first 12 years. "

We started in Plano, moved to Richardson, then Garland, then Dallas, then Garland again, then back to Plano.

Does anyone know how old Premier is? I started there in 2000 and it was well established by then. I am thinking the mid to late 90s but I'm not sure.

This is an interesting thread. Has anyone every written a book on the history if All Star Cheer? I would be interested in reading it. This sport has basically taken over our lives :)
Thanks for the info about Cheer Athletics & Spirit of Texas. The Garland location rings my memory bell as I have friends back home who's daughters are now in college who were @ CA and I remember them mentioning driving to Garland to the gym so that makes sense. It's nice to know there are so many great gyms in the area even though it will be another 2 cheer seasons before we need to find a gym there and we may end up anywhere from Coppell to Argyle or in between...lol!!

At a large competition a few months ago I noticed they were selling a bunch of shirts that had the number 86 on it. I asked why they all said 86 and what is the significate of that number. They said that was the start of all-star cheer. So I assume there are some gyms that opened in 1986. In Arizona the oldest ones are 12 years old.

Arizona Heat was founded in 1998? or 1997? I can't remember but they are the oldest AZ gym at 15 years...
