Maybe I misunderstood, I thought you still had to compete with the gym in order to be on a team at Worlds....? Like say I cheered at Craptastic Allstars all season-I couldn't leave Craptastic just to compete with Fantabulous Allstars at Worlds....I would have to compete with Fantabulous at some point....as an athelete on one of their teams or something? At least that's how it was explained to me.

There are scenarios in which an athlete's only event with a team could be Worlds without breaking any rules.

I'm gonna guess if you hop on over to that thread about predicting the top three teams at worlds in each division, basically all of them do this to some extent.

Not that I've ever been associated with any of those programs, but I always felt this was typical practice at the elite levels.

The way this replacement rule has been handled is, as far as I'm aware, the reason we have the waiver process now.

Because people could be substituted in and out, gyms could adjust numbers with whatever athlete wanted to go. People could hop onto whatever gym at any time. Granted, I don't know HOW much shuffling goes on with the elite teams, with the amount of athletes they have in-house I doubt they're doing much adjusting with outsiders. I do wonder, however, if the athletes who didn't make a team (like SE) but were in the running might have the chance to move up depending on injuries/skill gains.

How much of a risk are you willing to take, though? Do you really want up to 50% of your team performing a routine for the first time at Worlds? Sometimes you don't know how kids will react to that kind of pressure.

I am proud to say Twist & Shout does not remove members to make their teams "better" for worlds. The only exception to this would be a young flyer who just hasn't been able to stay in the air and she would be told it is possible she won't make mat at worlds. Even in that scenario she did still compete.

With our small sr 5 team this year we could have replaced 10 of those kids with kids from J5 and made their tumbling AND stunting better but Orson said he would NOT remove someone who's been there all year just to make the team better.

Loyalty over winning ... I knew I picked the right gym 6 years ago :)

The assumption that everyone does it just kills me here. Thanks!

The assumption that if you are NOT doing it then you are somehow not being competitive or giving those athletes that remain loyal with your program their best chance to finish in top standings at Worlds by bringing in some "superstar athlete shopping their skills around" kills me more.
