"BIG NEWS! Varsity announces the "Varsity All Star Judges Association"

Memphis, Tenn. March 27, 2013 - The Varsity All Star Judges Association is the newest initiative from Varsity All Star committed to maintaining the highest standard of scoring in the All Star industry. Coaches attending Varsity All Star events in the 2013-2014 competition season can expect to be scored by a pool of "Five Star" judges, who will be even more extensively trained on the Varsity Scoring System. In addition to the current training curriculum being implemented, our brands will work together this summer to coordinate an intense training session with all of our E-Score Judging Directors, Five Star Judges, Accu Score Judges, and Point Deduction Judges. Our goal at Varsity All Star is to continue setting the standard for quality scoring and judges training. With our new Judges Association in place, we are confident we will continue to be the leader in providing the most accurate, dependable, and professional judges in the All Star industry."

^^^ Edit - Not just concerns but a Universal place for training, information etc. etc. etc. FINALLY!

I know in the past our local UCA regional comp has pulled in random college cheerleaders that have all-star experience or UCA instructors... hopefully this will decrease that and get some consistency with judging! I think this is a great step forwards!

As soon as I saw the announcement, I thought of you! Hopefully it's a good thing. Just afraid it's one step away from a universal scoresheet.

Next week Jammy will announce its judges association and then we are back to square one.

That's not really true. As long as you know the Jambrands events you attend have highly trained and qualified judges, that's a great thing! I am definitely FOR a universal scoresheet, but until we can make that happen, each major company have a "judges association" of their own is a great thing, IMO.

It's a step. It recognizes that quality and consistency in judging is something that is necessary for all-star cheer to evolve. My hope is that the training is much like the training higher-level soccer referees get in that it's intensive, detailed and involves continuing education and communication. And that with this training comes a process of evaluating judging performance - i.e., it's more than just taking the class, it's being to apply the lessons of the class in real-time in high-pressure situations. (and get it right far more often than not)

I have been asking for this for 3 years! I was told I was crazy and it would never work. I admitted it wouldn't be easy but I don't see how it can be a negative. If Varsity and Jam have separate judges associations so be it, at least there is a common ground for the scoring. I don't see the two joining forces UNLESS Usasf requires a universal score sheet for qualification to their Worlds. Again, I've been told I'm crazy but a small step is better than no step.
