All-Star How Old Is Too Old?

For those who are still competing, is it different at tryouts? Like, do you feel like coaches or other teammates think of you different or expect something different from you? Or do you feel like your age makes it harder for you to make the team during tryouts (like, they would rather have someone younger with the same skills)?
I'm not treated any different than any other athlete that is trying out. For example, I'm more of a stunter so therefore, the coaches put me on the team to stunt. I also have one tumbling pass in the routine, but hitting my stunts consistently are more important. Everyone is put on the team for a particular reason whether you're only a stunter or tumbler or both.

Jesus, I'm only 20 and I'm already out of it. However, I will cry the day I ever lose the ability to whip a standing full anywhere. I just love being on the other side of it, coaching.

Sadly, I think you may literally cry when that happens... with a skill like that, once you lose it (and don't know you've lost it) the ground may remind you just how hard it was to learn in the first place.

I'm still looking to 'add' that skill in the next couple of years - just not looking forward to the close association I'll have with the mat to get there.

Is it sad that I'm 18 and I already feel too old? I wasn't ever a stellar tumbler and what tumbling I do have hurts me. Sometimes I'll ache for days after practice. I can see why gymnasts retire so young, this will take a toll on you. I just identify so much more with the coaching side of things that cheering feels very young, especially because we don't have an open team
