Since the board has become suddenly "literary" (using that term lightly) I thought this would be a good time to put out some recommendations for good reads that have a cheer purpose. (Or maybe just some good recommendations for the upcoming summer reading season) ;)

If I could get every/anyone in a position of leadership to read one book... This would be it. It's short, fast, easy and will change your perspective and probably how you do things.

Every gym owner should read this. It applies to your coaches, your parents AND your athletes.

There is a kindle version too. It's a must-read! Shifting the Monkey by Todd Whitaker

Shifting the Monkey: The Art of Protecting Good People From Liars, Criers, and Other Slackers:Amazon:Books

I'm going to be totally random with this one, but one of my friends wrote a children's book and it's AMAZING. If you have young kids or family members, it's a great buy.

Amazon.com: Mooseclumps (9780615755212): Ryan T. Bliss: Books

Otherwise, I'm looking for real, adult must read books. I'll check that one above out!
Thanks for sharing this!!! I have two young cousins who LOVE to read and their parents are constantly looking for new books for them!! :)

I personally know Marley and have read that book (and many others of hers). DEFINITELY look into her books! She's amazing. <3
I can't wait to tell her that someone suggested her:)
Oh it was such and great book! Anything about sports especially cheer just draws me right in. If there is an unexpected plot then hey. That's even better

None of these are cheer specific, but...
For anyone with a Kindle (or who has the Kindle app), try out The Kindness of Strangers: Penniless Across America by Mike McIntyre. It's about a guy who decides to hitchhike across the country with no money, relying only on the kindness of the people he meets along the way (for reference, this happened in the mid-90's when hitchhiking would have been much more common/acceptable). If you've seen Craigslist Joe (currently on Netflix and I also highly recommend), it's a very similar premise.

I also recommend the Song of Ice and Fire series (Game of Thrones), but only for adult readers (quite a bit of the material is not at all appropriate for children). Now, bear with me here - you may be thinking that you don't like nerdy fantasy novels or whatever, but the series has something for everyone. It's got politics, romance, action, plenty of intrigue, well-developed, 3-dimensional characters, fantastic writing, and a kickbutt plot that will keep you guessing.

I recommend I Suck at Girls by Justin Halpern (author of Sh*t My Dad Says) for a lighter, humorous read. Very entertaining and would make a good poolside or vacation book.

Spa Wars by Lora Condon was fairly entertaining and made me think twice about how I treat and how much I tip people in service industries. It's a fairly easy read, though I will warn that the writing is a bit rough.

For anyone who wants something a little weird or different, try a Chuck Palahniuk novel. I've read Diary and Tell-All. Both were entertaining, albeit strange and maybe a little disturbing at times, but they were the kind of books I could've read in one sitting if someone had let me.

That's all I've got for now, but I'm sure I'll think of more!

For good, page-turner vacation books, "The Snow Leopard of Shanghai," by Erin Pizzey or "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. The former, an historically-based fiction novel with some controversy, modern-style, the latter, a feminist take on the Arthurian legend.
Two of my faves.

If you haven't read it in school, To Kill A Mocking Bird. And then check out my dog on twitter @AtticusFinchB

"The Mists of Avalon" is defiantly a must read. I thoroughly enjoyed the book!
