Hey Kelly!! CP has her first practice tomorrow so I'll tell you whether I've realized I'm completely crazy or not afterwards!
And if I say you are cheer mom crazy then what does that make me, since my BFF made my CP a onsie and a tutu and bow in my nieces gym colors for her to wear to comps and parades! And CP was only like 6 months old at the time! ;)
Aww, first practice!!! I'm so excited for you!!! Good luck and I want an update!! That is too freaking cute, I bet she looked absolutely adorable.

My 4 year old is now a cp for real!!! I'm just super excited-I was in cheer and dance all through school and had always hoped I'd have a little cheerleader and now I do! She tried out for her very first team this past Saturday at Liberty Cheer All Stars and she made Tiny Show! I even waited up til 1 am waiting for them to post the results. My first parent meeting is tonight and I'm sooooo excited!!!

I just needed to share my excitement somewhere, I have one friend who is a hardcore cheer mom at DCA but no one else I know is into cheer, I knew I could share me cheer excitement here!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I love having my daughter in cheer and she loves it as well. I wish so much I had started her at 4, she is 11 with a tuck which sounds good but most who start young have layouts and fulls at this age

Maybe i am reading more into your comment than you are implying but a tuck at 11 is great. Though age can be a factor in skill development it is not the main reason kids advance or mean they will advance. I know kids that started as young as 4 and never progressed beyond a tuck when their career is over and others who progress in very short time and at a young age as you reference. My CP has been very fortunate to gain the skills he has now and he is decent at them but i am not so sure age was as big a factor as determination and ability were. Most of the individual skills he has learned were in his first few years of all star and he started around 8 and as he has gotten older he has worked on combining those skills into passes.

Hit send before proof reading.

My point is a tuck at 11 is great and she still has lots of time to advance.

ohhhh such a loaded issue that has been discussed many a time and whose experiences vary greatly. Biggest advise I have to offer is prepare for the worst and know that it can get really bad.

Your scenario is unique to you so in helping others who may reply may I ask how old or what level your CP is, why you are looking to switch and what is appealing to you about the potential new program, what is driving you from the old program? Specific gym names not needed.

I know this has been discussed in the parent section before so you may want to try searching there as well

Thanks for the advice Cheer Dad :) I should've worded my comment differently. I joined the Fierce Board looking for advice, I wasn't asking such a broad question on this thread. My apologies. But to answer your question CP is 8 and we recently moved to the area from out of state. We joined a gym this past season but it wasn't up to my standards and I felt, although she learned new skills, she lost skills also. I have several good gyms within a half hour's drive so we are checking them all out.

The best thing you can do is just go visit them. I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't some parents from those gyms here who might be able to offer some advice, but I'm not totally sure. I seem to be the only parent (at least who posts) from LCA. If you are in Texas you have some great options out here!

You can also post the gyms names if you feel comfortable.

I know when I posted cheer gyms I was interested in I received some great posts with insight in to each. Someone from those gyms or that has been to those gyms will probably pm you with maybe a lot of things you want to know and that is sometime where you get the greatest feel for what that gym is like.
