Hi! I'm just going to tell you that I'm from northern New Jersey and I need help deciding what cheer gym I want to be apart of for the 2013-2014 season.

The 3 closest gyms within a 1/2 drive are:
1) JuST Cheer: inbetween distance. This is the better known gym, one of their teams placed 10th at worlds last year, not that I'd be on level 5. I've never been here.
2) Gems Cheer Stars: the furthest of the 3 gyms. I don't know how good the program is here..
3) Star Athletics: the closest of the 3 to me. I've tumbled here for like 4 months before I injured myself and had to stop tumbling for a little while. I mean I do like the team, they're great, but I'm not sure that I want to be a member of THIS team. I feel like I'd be kinda betraying this gym if I choose another one.

If you guys know anything about these gyms and how good the programs are that would be a lot of help!

x~ Jess

Why don't you visit the other 2 gyms? That way you'll be able to make a decision based on your own information. All 3 gyms are successful in and out of the state.

I go to a smaller gym if you're interested, All American Allstars. From what I'm inferring, you're about 1/2 hour away from you, and our tryouts are coming up this weekend. If you're interested, I can give you a link to our Facebook.

Your mom would appreciate if you picked Star Athletics because it is great, and it's closest to you...but if Just Cheer is almost as close, you could check them out too because both are very good quality gyms in North Jersey. If Gem's is the farthest that is the one I would eliminate, but their lower level teams have done really well this season, and they are offering a level 5 team this coming year so give them all a try if you can.

Remember that there are a lot of advantages to sticking close to home...gas, your free time, your mom being able to run home, homework and friends. All those extra practices that sometimes get called before big comps. can make driving to the far away gym get old really fast...especially for mom.

All 3 of these gyms are Great programs!!! JC and SA have been around for 10+ years, and have been very successful Both of these gyms have a great reputation in the state of NJ, and GCS have a great program as well, from what I have seen with them they have great stunting technique from their smallest to their largest teams! All of these folks Have Great programs, and I know a few folks in all of these gyms!!!! Good Luck in your search, and check out ALL programs, and see what is best for you!!!! Cheers!!!:fro:

My close friend's stepson owns Star Athletics (Lee) so I have been following it for years and from what I have seen and heard its a fantastic top quality gym with wonderful teams and staff...I don't think you can go wrong there plus it's CLOSE! :)

I used to coach at Star Athletics (before Lee took over) when they had a SOLID worlds team and placed 2nd and 3rd at worlds...and I've cheered on a team at Just Cheer. From what I can tell - Just Cheer took the lead on their level 5 program over the past few years, and it seems like Star Athletics is taking time to develop their athletes at the lower levels to build back up into a powerhouse.

I'll always choose Star Athletics over any program - it's where my heart is...but you have to make a decision based on what's going to be good for YOU and your growth as an athlete. What team are most of your friends on? What team do you feel comfortable in? What team is going to challenge you to get better? These are the questions you need to ask yourself so that you can make the best decision.
Each program definitely has a specific style and from living in the area - they are just 15 minute apart! Not only that - I can only imaging that financially they are pretty much equal.

If those are your choices I would recommend Star Athletics.. I have know Lee for years and he has put together not only great teams but a fantastic gym.. He has done it right and once you visit you will not disappoint.

Couldn't agree more!!! My CP is a Star* Girl and she loves it!!
My 6-year old is starting Mini Cheer this year too!!

I've been at just cheer for 8 years and our gym is a big family. Gems and star are both wonderful gyms also so it is a tough decision. If you want, come to open gym and evaluations to check it out before you make a decision.

My CP was coach by Lee (Star Athletics) when he was a coach at CEA Raleigh. I think that would be a good fit for you. I don't know anything else about the other gyms. I am sure which ever gym you pick will be a good one for you. Best of luck.

I am not sure where you are starting from, but trafficwise, you have to take into consideration how horrible the 287/80 interchange can be. Traffic to the Poconos/Del Gap can be quite heavy on Fridays too. It is just another thing to think about since 15 minutes in theory can turn into an hour quickly if you are commuting at the wrong times.

Programwise, they are all pretty good. I am the most familiar with Gems since my CP's seems to compete against them alot. Jersey has so many excellent programs that I think the level of competition keeps inspiring all the programs to get better and more creative
