I have many thoughts but want to wait until I've had a full night of sleep.

Overall, it was amazing!! CP had such a great time.

I have taken two naps today. Set alarm for 5 pm to go to parent new season meeting tonight at six. Our girls got to be the Y2 Sharks Summit champs for less than a day. They have tryouts tomorrow! They are happy as can be. CP wore her gym Summit shirt, her inaugural Summit pin, and the bad mom that I am, when we got home last night, I said those curls and poof will hold if you want to sleep on it, put her comp bow back in this morning and wouldn't wash the smeared glitter off her eyes. Teacher probably thought I was a fruitloop. They were taking a field trip to the middle school she attends next year. She forgot about that medal for being a peak performer or she might have tried to smuggle that around her neck to school, too.

I sat through both days of the Summit as a spectator and honestly it was just another competition. With all the crossing over and teams with Worlds athletes competing it just didn't have the rules in place to make it a true level win. I am reading that paid bids were tougher to get than Worlds paid bids yet they were given no preference in performance order which was not right. They should have went last on the first day not random order. I understand that this comp is supposed to reward the best in the lower levels but I can't say that really happened if teams even had one Worlds participant on the floor.

I competed at the Summit this weekend with some of the best teams out there...my gym brought two teams and each are coming home with the rings. it was an amazing experience, this was as close I would get to going to worlds. Getting the opportunity to compete in the "Milkhouse" was breath taking, knowing that some of the best athletes out there competed on the same floor. It was very well organized, and it was like "worlds" for the non level worlds team. They treated us like we were actually a worlds teams, no teams left behind kind of thing. i cant wait for my ring to come in :)

I just thought I would throw out there that we only had one crossover on our ss3 winning team.

She crossed from j3 to s3 all season.

** just put that our there because I don't want our 1st of 28 placement to be diminished because of speculation.

Furthermore I wasn't aware that it was that big of an issue. Y'all are making me wonder how many people really had crossovers among levels? I had no idea!

Seeing that I'm not the only one mentioning crossovers let me say for the record- Any amount of crossovers used whether it were 1 or 30 is completely legal.

When discussing crossovers I always find it amusing that people say "we only used X amount from Z team". To me it really doesn't matter bc regardless it's 100% legal.

I will say that I feel the prestige of NCA and Worlds will always be highest among the industry bc of their stance on crossovers.

Yes, it's a necessary evil that's not going anywhere but it's the ones that abuse the rules that ruin it.

Examples:
1. "Cover up" rule. The FEW gyms that allowed their kids to look ridiculous forced ALL gyms into a stupid rule.
2. Time limit on and off the floor. Bc some draw it out too long a rule is now in place.

Moral of the story - Ridiculous people exist and always will and bc of ridiculous people the industry will continue to suffer.

I respectfully disagree. I want kids to want to reach the highest level and if they can go to disney on a level 2 team, why bother going for level 5. its just a sign of the times, more people want without working for it. jmo
I hear you. Babydonna wants to reach level 5 just as much now as she ever did. Summit is Summit, but it will never be Worlds. To me, level 5 means much more than just one competition. It means being one of the best of the best. Nothing will change that. Achieving level 5 means so much more than going to Disney for an end of year comp. In my honest opinion, if a kid is working toward level 5 just so they can go to Disney, they're probably doing it for the wrong reason. Are you suggesting that kids who are not on Senior 5 don't work as hard? I dunno...just because a kid doesn't have a full or a double doesn't mean to me that they're slackers. I've seen some pretty fierce teams that were on other levels. Jmo.

I just have to say that is is amazing to me to see all of the POSITIVE responses from those that attended the Summit. Regardless of how I feel about the "idea" of the competition, it's location or timing, it is nice and refreshing to hear about a competition that seems to have been run very well and almost everyone who attended had a positive experience. I am not sure that I have EVER seen a competition get such rave reviews, especially a first year comp.

Our gym got at least one paid bid and one not paid (CPs team got one) but chose not to go because it was never in our original schedule. I just told my husband that I will be very surprised if it is not on our schedule next year.

I love the idea of the Summit but my big concern is money. Disney is not cheap and the venue isn't even that great. Families and coaches dished out a lot of money to stay in Disney back to back weekends for those with siblings and multiple teams. I know a lot of small gyms with AMAZING teams that just can't afford to go to Worlds and The Summit in Disney. Move Summit somewhere more convenient so teams everywhere can access it and I'm all on board. I think it's a great motivator for younger teams and those looking to finish off the season at a big event.

Idk about you guys, but if I was a coach or a parent with two kids, one on a Worlds team and one on a team going to the Summit...I would MUCH rather just fly once to Disney and stay over the course of the week, than have to fly to Disney for Worlds, fly home, then fly to another location for the Summit or vice versa.

Something that I didn't see mentioned is that by having both events in the same place means that costs will be less for the EP and hopefully some of that savings would be passed onto us. I definitely think that Summit should be the week before and Worlds closes out the season.

In theory at least, ICU, USASF, Varsity are not supposed to be "the same event producer."

Just returned home from The Summit. My CP's team competed in large senior coed 4. I have to say I've never seen such great competition! At the end of the division on Saturday I truly had no idea who would move on to finals! We were ecstatic when they moved onto finals. It was a really well run competition and fun but I am still in awe at all the talent in every division. They did a great job with the bids!!!

I agree - the BEST part for us was the Reveal because there were SO many great teams there that you really did not know who was going to make the finals! So it was really exciting - especially if you are one of the teams called. There were barely any deductions day one in our field of teams so it was anyone's guess. That made it even more exciting.
My only superficial gripe is that they were out of Summit pins very early - the ones that said finalist were gone early Saturday morning so by the time you knew you were a finalist - even at lunch - they were all gone :-(

Totally agree! From what I saw (which wasn't everything mind you), the teams competing were all great!
