Why did USASF change the age cut-off to August 31st? I never really understood why they changed it from May 31st. If it was May 31st again more seniors would have the opportunity to super senior.. Or is that what they are trying to avoid?

(I tried looking for this in the search bar and couldn't find it so sorry if this has been posted already)

The main reason is that cutoff date is closer to the date that most school systems use.

The age cut-off for International Open is December 31st now. Just btw.

Kind of, but it's also a little bit more complicated... the rule is you must be turning 14(for level 5) or 17 (for level 6) within the year of the competition.

So for this season competitions in November/December have a cutoff date of December 31, 2013 and all competitions after that the cutoff date is December 31, 2014

Oh ok...so for instance like a 13 year old could compete on international open 5 for worlds 2014, as long as he/she was turning 14 before December 31st 2014? Or would they have to be 14 by worlds?

The first. A person could be 13 at worlds in the IO/IOC 5 division as long as they are turning 14 in the year 2014.

But from what I understand from reading the rules in the past (unless they've changed it again when they lowered the age back to 14 for the 2013-2014 season) the only competition the 13 year old can compete in is an international one. They cannot be on the IO/IOC 5 team that is is trying to get the bid, but can be added to the roster for Worlds if they get the bid.

Correct. The 13yo can only compete on the IO(C) team the year he/she turns 14.
If he/she was born 2000, they could only compete IO(C) in 2014.

In previous years American teams could only follow the IASF agre grid for worlds but for next season the USASF age will be the same as the IASF one. So the age cutoff is what I said for ALL events not just worlds.

That is correct. But that 13 year old can't compete in November/december.

Correct, I explained that earlier in this thread. In the IASF age grid (which is now the USASF age grid for the international divisions) is you must be turning that age in the year of the competition.

So if I understand this my daughter who is 12 who just aged out of youth can be on an I O5 team in January? Her birthday is 11/00.... so in 11/14 she will be 14. Is this correct?
I have heard of a team that is putting on a girl the same age as mine on their Io5 and plan on exibitioning until January. This sounds a little crazy to me... I can see lots of tiy bitty 13 year olds flying on grown men... can't be good
