So I was just wondering how everyone's tryouts went or if you are getting ready to have them.

We had ours the first week of April. I have 15 girls on JV. Varsity has 20 girls and 8 boys. So we have pretty large squads this year.

I literally just got home from tryouts. There were 8 judges and I tried out for captain so I had to tryout alone. First I did jumps, kick line, specialty, cheer, then dance. I walked out and almost passed out. I don't even think I breathed during the tryout haha but I think I did good

My daughters high school did something different this year. The cheer team was good last year, but couldn't be a good sideline team and competition team. so the coaches resigned and instead of replacing with one coach they replaced with two. 1 coach will be the sideline coach and 1 coach will be the competition team coach. Girls can try out for one or both. You can letter in both.

Sideline tryouts were first and this week.
I think with the changes, many weren't sure what to expect so the numbers were low. But because they won't compete you don't have to have large numbers and it opened cheer back up to those kids who are have awesome spirit and personality. So it will be a building year and bringing the spirit back into the school.

10 frosh, 7 JV, 9 Varsity and 1 mascot. even though the numbers are smallish, if the kids have more personality than the 17 we had last year, then we are light years ahead :).

Next week is the competition team try outs...will be interested to see the numbers. Two local high schools had small turn out and lots are headed back to All-stars.

We had the largest tryouts ever at my school, we now have 23 on our fall varsity squad! Last year we had 15. It's great to see people getting interested in cheer, we usually have small squads. :cheering:

I helped teach material for a local high school's tryouts this past week! Nearly 100 girls showed up!!!! We cut them down to about 70 on Wednesday and had final tryouts Friday. Now there's a frosh, JV, and Varsity team. I don't know the exact numbers, but it's a good group of girls! They have lots a potential, it will be exciting to see how they grow over the season.

We had tryouts last week. We had 32 try out, and ended up with a team of 14. A majority of our team this year is upcoming freshmen.. so we have a fairly new team, with a new coach and as a senior I'm excited to get things started! Our first conditioning practice is tomorrow. :)

We had 31 show up, 13 on varsity, the rest on JV including some seniors that have not cheered since they were freshmen and you can tell :) I hated to leave them there but it was that or cut and they seemed to be interested in staying.. we shall see :)

Oh and in my previous post when I said small... i mean really small. 15 was pretty big for us last year. My middle school squad had 4 people on it. We did a hitch and my secondary stuck her hand out and that is what I put my foot on... So 23 people is amazing for us!

I'm excited to see you excited. I know you had a rough go at the end. I'm sure it will be everything you want it to be! Congrats!

We had our tryout interest meeting last night and had 53 girls there :D We'll make a Varsity and JV out of that with alternates for both. Hopefully we'll get a few more girls that are interested this week that will come to tryouts next week!

oops! I do not know why I did not see this thread.....and I just started another one....Sorry.
Our tryouts were last week and my baby (14, starting HS in September) made Varsity! had their first practice last night.....she is supper excited.

I'm glad things have worked out for you! I know you weren't sure if you going to cheer again with your old coach, so congrats! I hope you have a great season!

We have 8 stunt groups at open gym. So about 36 people. Our coaches want about 12-16 on JV and 18-20 on varsity. We will have a competition team comprised of the top 15 of everyone.

We just finished tryouts as well! We are set up similar to @goosepatrick where girls can do both comp and sideline or just one. I love this set up. Theres nothing worse than forcing girls to cheer a football game if they just want to do comp.

For Comp I have 15 on varsity, 14 on JV, 16 on JV-non tumble, 13 on middle school. We also have tryouts for a short elementary season in the fall.

On sideline I have 17 on football, and 11 on soccer.

75 girls total!
