ok so lots of my girls on my senior team are going to a concert today and im being laid back about it, its all good, its summer, i was young once too ;) so for the ones not going we are having a beach practice. Parents are excited.

my question for all you :) any work out ideas for the beach?

my other question....

i would LOVE to go behind the scenes with a good gym and watch them conduct a mini's practice, i always feel like i dont know totally what i am doing, this is my first year with minis. can anyone describe their practice for me so i can see if im on point, i mean i kno im not doing a horrible job, stunting with mini's is what kills me. so many gyms do it different ways!!!!

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

CP just aged off minis- we had an amazing 3 years! I noticed that (especially with the younger kids) prizes always make them work harder. And if you have any junior or senior girls, let them pick one girls they feel worked really hard or improved a lot and give that mini a prize from the older girl. Minis are an interesting group and they need lots of positive reinforcement. Games work too!

At a mini practice:
1. Warm-ups. Maybe pick two kids each time to lead the warm-up. Just make sure you still supervise so they don't race through or forget anything.
2. We usually line up one lines and do team bridge kickovers. SO like 5-6-7-8 High V 1-2-3-4 Back 5-6-7-8 Kick 1-2-3-4 Clean 5-6-7-8
3. Then we go through each stunt section and warm them up. Each coach usually takes a stunt group to watch more closely/spot and to make sure they are using proper technique.
4. Then we start running through the routine with counts, then music. With minis we don't typically allow them to mark anything because a. they don't really get what the means, and b. the skills they are doing aren't so tiring that they would need to break from them.
5. We have two floors so we run double practices, so after they go through a few times with the music we will let them show the "big girl" Juniors their routine. This is where we put an emphasis on facials, being tight, etc.
6. If we have time we'll do a little conditioning, maybe some leg lift, start jump, crunches (watch these really closely to make sure they are actually lifting their shoulders and not just tugging on their necks)
7. Then we bring it in, do our little team thing and they go home.

I cannot stress enough, this is not a Tiny team. They don't need to do "baby" warmups (like making a pizza). We used a treasure box or practice princess a couple of times, but not as an every practice thing. Treat them like "big girls" and they will compete and perform like "big girls"

My older was a Mini 4 years and my little one 2 years....what I always noticed was at the end of practice they almost always played a game...not only did it promote the team bonding but they always came out of practice laughing and smiling ...winded from the games but smiling! Even if it was a rough practice :)
