I'm about to sound real stupid, but what exactly does being verified mean? I'm not totally gathering the definition from what I've been reading.

On twitter they have the idea of verified users - a way of saying that a twitter user is a celebrity and not a fake. I don't think we necessarily have that problem here, but it's a useful way to say that @rulesguy is Les Stella and he's the one in charge of the rules for the USASF and @bluecat is one one of the owners of Cheer Athletics.

It's just nice to when interacting on the board that a user is someone important or cheer-famous/

That makes sense. Thanks :)

Less that someone is fake but more backing up what they say is from a real representative in the industry.

Twitter is good at things and bad at things (as is Fierce Board). Twitter allows the spreading of information very quickly. It allows people to share information to thousands instantly. However it does not allow the discourse to develop and to watch other peoples conversations. It is more like TV in that conversations tend to be very one sided. As well I highly doubt many people in cheer will get 'verified' on twitter either. Last Twitter 'weighs' someones opinion more heavily the more followers they have because of the mass amount of people that one person with a lot of followers can communicate with.

Fierce Board on the other hand allows people to actually talk and everyone has a very equal voice. Information moves much slower, but if you are looking for a place for a back and forth and you can read others opinions easily the type of conversations change. This is great because everyone is on equal footing and only their opinion and smarts is what holds them up, but it is also terrible because crazy cheer parents have the same voice.

Neither are inherently good or bad and both are VERY different. I highly applaud anyone who comes on here because you do make yourself exposed to the general public. But the benefits and rewards you reap because of it if you do a good job are a lot better connection with the industry. I think @ascheerman has exemplified this beautifully (on many forms of social media) and I think is one of the reasons he's been able to grow his competition so large. People who interact consistently and honestly on social media are viewed as more trustworthy and people will do business more with someone who seems trustworthy.

So to allow people who do make part of their livelihood out of cheerleading AS WELL as inform people when someone who is high up does offer their opinion I created the verified accounts. Sometimes high up is someone who owns a gym, or works at Varsity, coaches a team from a gym that they are willing to put their name on, or a high profile media person.

Yeah, I don't care if people know who I am (there are plenty here who do), but I'm not about to post my full name so every crazy who doesn't agree with my opinion or my gym can come harass me in my private life.

For quite a long time, I assumed NJ Coach + an avi of a black woman with long hair meant that you had to be Theapia Best!

Bwahaha, while I love Theapia, I am not her.

Let me verify me right now! I was the owner of XPA in Madison. We recently moved to Florida. We were looking at opening a gym in Lakeland, however we took a drive to Clearwater for beach time and seen that Brandon is 20 minutes from home. I respect Peter very much and said I want my girls to be a part of the Brandon family. So now I am a full time judge. I am certified in just about all aspects, will be at the SW USASF meeting for my USASF safety judge testing. I am very much in favor of making this a sport. I am for a unified scoring system. I am an ordained minister, I do choreography and clinics. I am for crop tips and bling, Britney Spears is awesome music in any routine and so is David Guetta. My name is Chad Mulkey. Need anymore info, ask me. Also I am the only minister I know with tattoos and earrings. Most importantly, Angi Dunham and Amy Clark are the hardest working people I know in this industry. They deserve much love!

SUPER off topic but my tattoo artist is a minister! Lots of tattoos and piercings! Best kind of ministers there are!

That's the best thing about being out of coaching for now. I have no issue with who knows me or disagrees. Which there are plenty I am sure. I have long wanted to break into the judging and USASF side. I feel I can offer more there. After both hips replaced it was time. I have thought about coaching a local school, maybe. I have always wanted to go to NCA High School Nationals.

I have no problem being verified. But I thought I had to give verification when I became apart of the Coach's board.

There difference is that people know you're a coach but you can still be anonymous.

The reaction to all of this had been interesting. No one had between verified that has not been asked yet and lots of people won't be.

I am a little on the fence about this subject. I do think it is a great idea if it is used correctly. I think legitimate gym owners, USASF judges, and possibly some popular informational twitter accounts such as Cheer Updates and Industry, etc, should be the only ones verified. I really do not think athletes or parents should be verified. I feel like it is just giving into the whole "cheerlebrity" frenzy which most on here do not like. People are going to end up getting butt-hurt because them/CP didn't get verified but Susie's mom/CP did because she cheers at Craptastic Allstars on team XYZ.

If and when you decide if you want to verify parents, one option for the verification process could be showing a copy of your CP's USASF card.

But, I must say that I don't think that Cp's gym would be thrilled to be answering phone calls asking if I (or the other 3 or 4 people who I know post here from the gym ) are real.

Rec programs would be harder to verify. Board members and coaches would be easily seen on websites, but just a regular parent or athlete would be harder to track.

"Butt-hurt" ? LOL

I don't believe the plan is to verify every cheer mom and dad. Just a handful of people in the industry who's opinions are sometimes valued a little more because of their role in the industry.

That said, I hate the opportunity for people to remain anonymous on message boards. People are so disrespectful and rude. I have to wonder that if everyone was actually forced to OWN their words and statements, would it change the environment here? I think it would--and for the better. Too many people hiding, in my opinion.

Come out, come out, wherever you are!

I am working on a process now. I am starting with those I know personally are involved in the board and have talked to on the phone. To be verified you can in no way be 'anonymous' on the board anymore, so not everyone wants to be. It will involve your real name, your position at your gym, and possibly a phone call.

I'm trying to remember if we've ever actually spoken on the phone?

'Cuz I'll be crushed if I don't get a checkmark!

I agree. If you say it then you should stand up for it.
