The Allen cheer program has a total of 83 members which includes Freshman,JV, Varsity, 4 Blue Crew, 4 Mascots. I'm not exactly sure about the number of girls that tried out for JV and Varsity at Allen but it think its was around 50 or so that tried out for Varsity. For JV there were maybe 25 girls...yeah pretty low number. We had over 80 girls try out for Freshman. Of course not everybody makes the team. If you try out for Varsity next year the competition won't be as tuff as it will be for the JV team, only because a lot of the JV team are not apart of competitive or didn't start cheer as early as we( 2013-2014 Freshman team) did. If you do make it you'll love it! After our spring practices we are already one big family. Not to mention the the feeling you get cheering in a huge a sold out stadium on Friday nights. The energy is through the roof!

Yeah thanks ! :) and would you say they take tumbling over everything else more seriously at tryouts? and if so what would be the minimum tumbling pass to try out for Varsity and make it as a Sophmore or just have a spot out of the almost hundred trying out for JV .

It looks like there are quite a few IB schools in the metroplex in addition to Arlington high and Allen:

TIBS - Texas IB Schools
Trinity High School Euless
L.D. Bell High School Hurst
Plano East Senior High School Plano
Rockwall High School Rockwall
Rockwall-Heath High School Rockwall
Denton High School Denton
Coppell High School Coppell

Something I should say as well is that if you are thinking of cheering for high school, it is taken quite seriously in Texas (friday night lights and all that...). You are already on the right track by competing in allstar, but be sure to be working on your tumbling/jumps/motions for tryouts in the spring and contact the coach prior to tryouts (especially if you won't be out to dfw yet).

My mom really liked the Rockwall High schools, but the IB programs weren't listed anywhere as part of their academics ?

Unfortunately Varsity is only for Juniors and Seniors :( .From what I can remember from the score sheet tumbling is not everything but it defiantly does help a lot. Every girl on our Freshman team has a standing back and everyone for sure has a running tuck. Most people except for 4 out of 24 have a running layout, and 4 almost 5 have fulls. Jumps, Motions( in dance, cheer, and fight song), spiriting lol, and voice projection are worth more than tumbling.

Edit. My bad for not quoting you sorry

The Main Campus or the high School is 10-12. There is a whole separate building on the other side of the street for the Freshman. It's called the Lowery Freshman Center. Even though they are 2 separate campuses together they make up Allen High

I grew up in Denton and my niece is about to be a Senior at Denton High School and is in the IB program. She is an excellent student and is applying to schools such as Princeton. I didn't cheer in HS myself but I was on drill team. Denton is a great town and a great place to live, and has a very good gym that my other niece attends, Dynasty Cheer Academy. They are a strong gym and a have a few titles to their name. I've attended many of their comps and they have a talented group.

And I'll add, that I really wanted my daughter at DCA but we are moving a little south of the metroplex which is why we chose LCA, also a great gym with a few titles under their belt.

The IB programs at both Rockwall ISD high schools are brand new:
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme | Rockwall ISD

"Rockwall ISD is in the process of having both high schools authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. We anticipate this program being offered to the Class of 2016 and beyond. IB Diploma Programme students study six courses, thus ensuring breadth of experience, in English, a second language, social studies, the experimental sciences, and mathematics. The sixth subject may be an arts subject or an additional course from one of the other areas of study." For more info, I would contact the school district's counseling center...they would have the most info.

The Rockwall area is gorgeous, right on the lake, and the schools offer cheer, dance(called drill team in Texas), and gymnastics teams, so lots of opportunities. Many of the girls cheer for CA. You would definitely have a great chance of making the freshmen cheer team as well with a backhandspring. Examples of both schools competing this season:Varnerized's channel - YouTube (in 3rd and 4th rows from the top)

Ahhh I want to shimmy your post about Denton but my CPs cheer at the "rival" gym! :)

Aw! I have been going to DCA comps for 3 years now I think, and my CP has tshirts and onsie for DCA. I always wanted her to go there and now we are moving to far away and my bestie is NOT happy about it-they've been up against my current gym before!

LCA is a great gym. Our gym has teamed up with them to form a level 5 team so they are our "sister" gym so to speak. I am sure that our paths will cross during the comp season!

Im excited to be there, and from the bits I've seen so far there are some talented kids there! I guess you are NOT at the gym I thought you were!
