Have any of you cheered at Cheer Extreme Raleigh or know a lot about it? How is it there? Also, what's the area like with schools and what not?

I don't know anyone personally who cheers at CEA Raleigh, but I can give you an idea of the general area. I grew up around there! Generally, the schools are really good in Wake County. As in any city, some are better than others, but as a general rule, you'll get a decent education in Raleigh. It's a really nice city with lots of fun stuff going on, especially due to the proximity of NC State University. I still really love going home to visit my folks while the State Fair is going on in October. Raleigh is also close enough to both the beach and the mountains to make a weekend out of either! I'm a little biased, but I think it is a great choice of a place to live. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about the area. Good luck to you!

I don't want to be unfair to other Raleigh gyms, but I honestly have no idea regarding their gyms except for CEA. I absolutely LOVE the Raleigh location. They really have a solid, well-rounded coaching staff (who I cannot say enough good things about, especially Kelly Smith and Lymarie Jackson- but the others are all very good). I think it's run very efficiently, has fair pricing and upfront info about the pricing structure and breakdown, competitions, etc.
You can even ask @andrewsky about one or two of the aforementioned coaches (and he's pretty honest, straightforward, and direct when speaking his mind.

I can also tell you that I wish that location was feasible for us, bc after a few years I would have preferred for CP to have started with the Raleigh location. Full disclosure CP is a Mini- but that's my two cents. If you'd like some more info regarding that specific gym I can put you in touch with one of the coaches and/or owner. :)

Good luck with your decision!

I have lived here my whole life. Wake Co. is very diversified in terms of areas, living in the city and being able to walk to places if for sure different than living in the suburbs, where 90% of families live. There is N. Wake County, Cary, Apex, Garner etc, all with a different vibe and things to do. With so many universities around, education in the area is a top priority. There are Magnet schools with various academic programs, charter schools and year-round schools, with many private schools also. In terms of gyms, there is CEA, and our new program, Tri-Athletics-their All-Star program director is Jamien Small (who was nominated as Choreographer of the year) We are a first year program and 4 worlds teams already, which speaks to his high level of coaching (we had been with another small program we LOVED for 6 years but the new owner shut it down mid-season this year). This is a great area to be in with several All-Star programs to choose from.

The only thing we didnt like about wake county was the zonings. I lived literally across the street from green hope high school, but i was zoned for another school 10 miles away. and then i have no idea how it is now but some schools were year round and some others weren't. idk that was just weird but i think they all might be year round now.

i hate to thread hijack... but now i am very interested in how the full year school works. are there like quarterly "vacations" or are the days shorter or is it just full-day, full-year? i think full year school is such a great idea.

Go to school 9 weeks, get 3 weeks off. Plus some days off.

We do year round schools. It is offered at the elem and middle school level. We go for 9 weeks that is a quarter and have 3-5 weeks off at a time depending on if our break is when there is spring break or Christmas. There are 4
"Tracks" to choose from. Depending on when you want to have time off. We chose a
Track to match up with traditional schedule (my oldest is on a traditional schedule in HS). So we basically have off January,April, July and October. I love it. Especially for my son who needs more structure. We start and end the school day at normal times.

this may sound like a stupid question, but what days do they go to school? because if its monday-friday im surprised they could fit everything in, because that sounds like more days off than traditional schools!

Its monday thru friday. Everyone goes the required 180 some days. We don't have teacher workdays-those are built into their track out time-the teachers go back a couple of days before the students. We still get off Labor Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving etc. Instead of our 11 weeks off all at one time in the summer, it is spread out over the year, and no teacher workdays is an additonal 5 days. And since cheer is a year round sport anyways, might as well have kiddos in school if we have to be around town in the summer. ;) It really helps with over-crowding. The building is used year round, and at any given time there are 1/4 less students using the facility.

i hated year round school wayyy back when they tried it in central florida, the parents had a field day over the school zone doing it too, saying the schools were ruining our summer vacation, and burning out the kids. so they changed it back. barely made it through 1 month, haha.
