Being verified was started on Twitter as a way to make sure people were who they really are. When Twitter first came out it wasn't about being famous and having to have that blue checkmark, it simply meant you were who you were.

I think we need a system like that. Yes, I believe people high up in the industry deserve their own recognition, but I feel as if normal everyday cheerleaders on the board want to prove they're a real person (18 and over) then they should also get some sort of verification, be it a different symbol or color or something.

My thing with being verified is, how many people on here are really pretending to be someone else? Yes it happens occasionally and we all spot it immediately. I think it makes sense for those who have bigger titles in the industry. This way people know when Les posts that it is accurate.

It doesn't really matter when Joe Schmoe posts something random if he isn't who he says he is unless he's claiming to be someone of authority.

I just don't like that people are saying those everyday people's opinions are less important because they're not as high up in a cheer position as others. There's a lot of regular people on the board who have good insight and offer good commentary. I don't work for any cheer company nor do I coach in a big name gym but I do know quite a bit about cheerleading and I don't believe verifying only important people is the right thing to do. I know people will disagree with that but this board was made for regular cheerleaders and coaches to interact and add insight and ask questions, not to give people more importance and make them any better than anyone else.

The thing is no one is saying you opinion is lower. In fact what you say on here has an equal audience with everyone else and you would be surprised the effect you can have on someone (even a verified account) if what you say is smart and has merit.

They aren't saying it out right but by saying those who are verified carry a higher distinction it therefore means ours carry less. I just feel like so much of cheerleading has turned into politics and popularity and although that's true in most things, I'd like the board to stay less political. I'm not against verifying, I just feel like the current reasons for it are wrong.

With all things there are positive and negative. Asking Andre and the other rules person a rules question you can get an answer you 'know' is coming from someone who is involved. I am going to be verifying more people as I go, just havent figured out who I should do next exactly.

There is a measure of politics in all we do. Unfortunately, that's just the way it happens sometimes. As far as verifying, I'm not looking at is as these people are more important than me, or their opinion carries more weight. I prefer to see it as confirmation these people may know what they are talking about. That doesn't mean I'm going to agree with them any more or less than before. They get my support when I agree with what they are saying, same as everyone else.

I hope that's the case.

For the record, I am going to choose to remain basically anonymous. There's probably a handful of people on this board that know which gym my daughter used to cheer for. Fewer than that would know my real name.

The reason I am protective of my identity is three-fold:

1. I have minor children and want to protect their privacy as long as possible.
2. I do not want my opinions to be in any way construed as a program's opinions.
3. I have seen what happens to people who put their real identity out on the internet and say something that somebody else doesn't like.

If you choose not to believe I had a daughter in cheer or am involved with youth soccer, that's your prerogative. You can feel free to give my opinions less weight, or none at all. But I would hope that we evaluate posts on this board based on their quality, not about whether somebody's got a checkmark by their name.

In certain areas the statements of the verified people do carry a higher distinction. I think it's important to know the person replying to questions about NCA or the Varsity Scoring system is someone that works for NCA has responsibility for the scoring system. I think it's important to know the person responding to the questions in the Cheer Athletics thread is one of the founders and owners of Cheer Athletics and not an over zealous fan. I also think knowing when Les, Jessica, or I, 3 of the 8 people in the world that can officially answer a rules question on behalf of the USASF, comment on a rules question thread that you should give our comments a little more weight than the general population.

It doesn't mean you should listen to me any more than anyone else on the Cheer Athletics thread or general topics.

I agree with the way you worded it.

Wow!! This verification has gone a whole new direction that I thought it was supposed to be. I thought we were basically trying to weed out the "rif raff" (as my mother used to say).

I do understand there are many, knowledgeable industry professionals here that have valuable information. They are a great source for NCA, Worlds, scoring, ect questions.

But, IN MY OPINION, asking them specific questions about your CP or such is like getting info off WebMD. Each situation is different and could only be correctly answered by your gym coach who knows and works with your CP.

If you want to know about Cheer Athletics, Top Gun, World Cup, ect.....they all have websites that help and have contact info.

JUST MY OPINION.....don't start hating on me!!
