All-Star Bragging Or Promoting?

The ones that get me are the parents that set up IG accounts for their 5 year old and then leave it open to the public. I just saw one that is promoting her cp's signed cheer bow...she's 5! Not only is that scary because any creeper can look at her pics but what are you hoping to achieve by doing it?!

Cannot even comprehend that.

This will probably come off as mean spirited. I don't know that there is any specific dividing point though, because it's all about context.

A lot of parents can be compared to when babies are born. They get super excited when they roll over for the first time, crawl, sit up on their own, etc. They literally don't know how to reel themselves in. Is it any less annoying? No. But I don't think there is any purposeful intent.

On the other hand, we all have seen exactly what you're referencing. And I agree, a single cell clip, pic, tweet/post, or two great. Posting over and over and over...not so great. At least post progression. Hey CP got her layout. Months later, CP has her full. Great. Nobody really needs to see 10 videos of learning a back handspring. And the people that do, are probably just the same people doing the same with their kids.

I posted a back tuck video probably 3 yrs after it was learned. At that point, only because it was funny to look back at it. If you have something amazing, like Titus the basketball shooting baby, then post it up all you want! Otherwise try to show a little restraint.

Additionally, and semi-related, name dropping is super annoying. I don't get why everything somebody says has to either mention they belong to gym xxx, or are part of team xxx, or how their cheerlebrity teammate is so nice and down to earth, just to let you know they know them!

My brag Facebook posts are almost always academically related! I've posted a couple of videos over the last 3 years she did cheer when she got a new skill for the first time. Aside from that recently found old videos from my blackberry (quality is awful) of her when she was a toddler bc they're cute and/or special to me. Like @mommadonna both my CP and I are lucky to be alive after our ordeal. I'll just give the cliffs notes version- pregnancy and childbirth was not kind to me and we both almost died- no exaggeration.

But I do think there's a not so fine line between bragging and promoting. We just have to remember, no one thinks our kid is as cute/awesome/fantastic, etc. as we do. ;)

This reminds me exactly of one of the mom's on my little one's former team. She has no qualms telling you about it either. She specifically wants to use cheer as a catalyst to make her child famous.

Or "modeling" since she "models" (only modeling I ever saw was in professional paid for head shots)

Pet peeve of my life, oh my gosh! I have seen way too many posts saying "photoshoot" "model photo shoot" "I'm a model now" and telling people they are models or writing "model" in their bios etc. when you paid for the pictures from a local photographer... Drives me nuts.

I'm a model too- there are all these photo albums of me from when I was growing up....it's amazing!! This whole time, I never knew....

I used to do that for all of our teams as well. We also used to record (or at least try) all of our teams for my YouTube page for family and friends.
I usually recorded my kids teams because my kids want to be able to watch their own replay and demand the camera as soon as they came off the stage. If it hit I'd usually post it locked to my friends only on FB (not YouTube) so the family could see it....if only to beat into their heads that what my kids do IS an athletic and skilled activity.

Ill post occasional progress videos when they get something new locked (now) to only cheer friends on Facebook. For a little while that was frequent with the prince because he packed on a lot of skills at once, but he's been stuck at 1 3/4 of a double for months. I created a locked group of people on facebook that would be interested. The rest won't even see those videos whether they're family or not.

I think I may know exactly who you are talking about....

I think one of the most disturbing things that really bothers me is that some parents seem to want the fame just as their children "do" (I say that loosely). I recently saw on instagram a certain cheerlebrity's parent's bio stating that they were the mother of such and such cheerlebrity and owner of cheerlebity's clothing apparel line. No where in this particular parent's bio did it say that they were also the mother of another child...which I know for a fact that the mother has another child (not to sound creepy, but she posts her personal life all over social media) and I can't help but feel deeply sorry for that other child. I wonder how that child feels about their other sibling being put up on a pedestal? It's seeing things like this that is really disturbing...I really don't understand some people's motives...it's JUST cheerleading and I think many people forget that. Once a cheerleb graduates from highschool their time in our industry is usually done...I can't help but think about the issues that some of these young people are going to have and the insecurities added.

I believe we have all seen parents try to live through their child. But they are children! I am curious about these parents state of mind. At what point do you assume that your child's life is so much more amazing than yours?! Really!!!
