You must've lived around Rochester then? Wegmans is definitely upstates pride and joy. We LOVE talking about it and we love the attention it gets lol. You should see one of the ones in my area, it is massive. Like just massive.. You wouldn't believe it!!

Grew up in Fairport (suburb of Rochester for people who don't know) for the first 18 years of my life. I miss it sooooo much - I really want to move back but life keeps getting in the way. :( It really is crazy how much attention a grocery store gets. They were just starting to build the huge stores when I was leaving - they had torn down our little orange one (I will always remember it for all that 1970s orange and brown) and built a mega store. I have pictures of me there in the mid '70s. If I find one I'll post it - it's hilarious and you'll never believe its a wegmans!

But really they were awesome even when they were small - it's hard to put into words but there's just something about wegmans that they've always just had "it". The only people who get it are people who shop there. I try explaining it and people are like "Sooooo...it's a grocery store?"

Lol I'm jealous of all of you who still get to go there!

Ahh yes, I competed against the fairport raiders for many years in pop Warner :p I go to school with a lot of people from Long Island and when they find out I have about 6 within a ten mile radius of me they flip out. One time, a few of us were going up to the adirondacks for the day and they wanted go two hours out on the way to the closest wegmans. That's how crazy people are now! I'd love to see those pictures. I remember the old orange and brown freezers and refrigerators there in the 90s until they decided to redo all of them. But they are gorgeous now. I hope you get to come visit at least and get to see them again. You still get the mom and pop feeling when you go there because you know at least 7 people working there and you'll always bump into someone you know. Plus the people who work there are so nice and you can tell the store fully cares about the quality of the food they sell. Everyone there takes pride in that store, no matter which one you go to.

I really wish I could think of some good regional foods from the New England area. But there really are none except the seafood that people mentioned before.

ETA except I really don't think people understand there is a distinct difference between Dunkin Donuts in New England and outside of New England. People here are VERY possessive of their Dunkins.. it's kind of like a really weird obsession/addiction.
We don't even have any Dunkin Donuts in my town. It sucks. We only have it at the airport in St. Louis and it's NOT the same as on the east coast and in New England.
D'Angelo has amazing sandwiches! Also, pizza in New England is so good. You don't understand until you come to the midwest and eat Imo's and all this, it's like a saltine with sauce and cheese on it. Shakespeare's in Columbia is good but most of the pizza places are average or... saltine places. Greek Salads in New England are better than the midwest too. So maybe they aren't "regional" but they're just better ;)

If anybody is ever in Lawrence, Kansas you should go to Pizza Shuttle! The cream cheese and pepperoni pizza, or cream cheese and bacon, is sooo good. Also The Burger Stand at the Casbah in downton Lawrence is pretty great as well.

I've never been do a Dunkin Donuts. They don't exist in California. Wait, I lied, there is ONE apparently. In Southern California near San Diego. Which is so weird because I always see commercials for them on TV. But my mom was visiting the east coast a few years ago, and she said they were everywhere. Like the east coast equivalent to starbucks. Their slogan is "America Runs On Dunkins" but it should really be "The East Coast Runs on Dunkins."
Still. All about the Dutch for me.

Love the following about where I live...

Wawa
Porkroll, egg and cheese
Jose Tejas
Jimmy Buff's
a million diners to choose from
Proclaiming my love for Jose Tejas. Amazing food, fresh ingredients, great prices. My family tries to make it there at least twice a month.

I actually miss really weird irish/uk food. Like Cadbury chocolates/buttons and shrimp cocktail crisps and chips cheese and garlic, chicken burgers from Istanbul, and Irish breakfasts. And bacon fries-which are a combo of cheesy poofs and fritos but they taste like bacon. I have friends who ship them to me by the case. Its awesome.

Although I don't miss them trying to put onions in mash. No. Just no.

I was going to mention the shrimp (prawn) cocktail chips! That is on my permanent request list from my English relatives. That an Tunnocks Caramel Wafers though I've just discovered those here.

Dunkin is like the New England Starbucks. Barely anyone I know goes to Starbucks there's like one tiny little express in the closest city to me with a million Dunkins everywhere. We just got a Dunkin built in my town it was finished in the beginning of June. My town has one grocery store, one street light, a couple small gas stations and then there's Dunkin Donuts now. So funny. Anyway, I also looooove red hotdogs. I'm fairly positive these are just a New England thing as well. They're just regular hot dogs but they're red and have a snap to them when you eat them. Yummy!

Well, if you're ever in the Syracuse/Upstate NY area, here are a few things we have that you should definitely seek out:

Salt Potatoes - smother them in lots of melted butter and you'll be in heaven. It's pretty much a summer thing and you'll find them at any graduation party. They are so so so good... just not for your waist line.

Hoffman Hotdogs - they are the best hotdogs you'll ever have (of course I am biased).

Dinosaur BBQ - there's one in NYC and another one upstate I believe, but the original is here in Syracuse. They're corn bread is to die for as well as the rest if their food. The atmosphere is awesome; you'll see bikers and businessmen sitting side by side.

Wegmans - haha everyone loves Wegmans. People seriously freak out about it, it's hysterical, even though its just a grocery store. They have the best subs though, you have to get one (with the sub oil).

We also have a Wetzels Pretzels here. To whoever said that Auntie Anne's Pretzels are better, I strongly disagree with you. AA's pretzel bites and frozen lemonade have nothing on Wetzel's.

Pizza - Twin Trees is the best, don't let anyone fool you. If you're in a college town and you find a pizza shop with cold cheese pizza, it's worth a try. Definitely a treat after a night out on the town.

I 2nd the Dinosaur BBQ but I agree about the one in Syracuse its much better then the Rochester one. My Family LOVES Wegmans subs if they could eat them every day they would and so would I! We also love Wegmans Sushi! Salt Potatoes and Hoffmans Hotdogs ;) to die for! And how could you forget Spiedies!! An absolute favorite and people think were crazy for obsessing over little pieces of marinated meat. Oh well I still love our food

I will admit that I am partial to Starbucks over Dunkin. But I think that might be because there are technically more Starbucks on my campus and I really got into coffee to survive this past semester.

They just recently put a Sonic in MA. I'm pretty sure it's the only one in New England, maybe north of New Jersey, I don't know. But anyway, we grew up with all those commercials on tv and never were able to go to one. But now we can woo!

There's lots of Starbucks in Boston. In fact, when I met with wedding photographers, I ended up meeting every one of them at a different Starbucks and that really wasn't intentional.

I don't drink coffee, but I prefer their tea to Dunk's.

We have one Sonic on Long Island, I think it opened only last year or the year before. Still haven't been there but I heard the shakes are great. We are also getting our first Dairy Queen this year (it may have already opened).

Here in canada (east) one of the main "no name" grocery store brands President Choice has a thing called rip n dips, it's a pizza that is like mini buns that are easy to rip apart & it comes with sauce to dip, they are amazing !
*typing this as I eat some*

If you ever go to sonic, go for the drinks. The food is just typical fast food but... you can add basically any flavor to a soda, you can get amazing slushes (lemonberry is the best IMO), and the shakes (Strawberry banana is my fave) are great too! They have all kinds of different drinks, pretty sure you could go there a thousand times and still order something you've never ordered before. My carpool stops by there to get slushes/shakes after practice all the time in the summer, as it's right by my school :cloud9:
I never noticed they didn't have them on the east coast!
