I know. I suspect them. Coaches and gym owners across the country have discussed "reclaiming" the sport. It wouldn't surprise me for them to come together and work on a new format for competition.

It makes sense that they would work together to form something like this, but it doesn't really make sense for me to expect gym owners and coaches to kind of fund this event and then have their athletes pay to travel all the way there to compete. But I don't even know anymore and I've kind of just given up on trying to figure this out.

Someone somewhere in this thread said its not varsity (clearly) or jammy. I think that leaves nfinity unless its someone else new is showing up on the scene,

Hmm this got me to thinking. Since the event might be in Pittsburgh what EP is closest to there. . . The Abby Lee Dance Studio will be hosting the cheer event LOL ;)

Can this be another food thread yet?
As much as I want to know about the Champions League... It's going to be awhile

The Fiercest App of All... Fierce Board

Here's the thing. (And ill get flamed for this) I have had the worlds live stream for two years but I always find something to do during the prelims and 789 at large teams (generally). this is starting to feel like some kind of competition where you only get to watch the ones you wanted to watch in the first place. Everyone always carries on about all the at large bids...seems like this cut right to the chase.

And if it goes like LAG and large Coed when it was nothing but Hitsville.... This (for whatever it is) has the potential to be THE most exciting thing all season if only because of the caliber of the teams coming. That's especially true if my hunch about a bracket system is true. Holy amazingness if these teams are in head to head bracket elimination!

What a warm up for worlds this will be! Crossing my fingers and am most interested at this point about hearing the format.

Yes but there are far more than 24 teams that get paid bids!

everyone is freaking out about ca (which i understand since they are a bigger gym), but what about spirit of texas? even though they're not as big of a gym as ca, I've always considered SOT an elite gym, and their teams have been in the top rankings at major competitions for a while. does anyone know if their medium coed is invited?

I almost don't care about the format. The fact that these teams will be in one place, before Worlds, is exciting to me. Granted, I want them to compete and all, but I'm not as concerned about what the actual format is. I'm not sure I'll be able to attend Worlds again this year, so this has the potential of being my Worlds. I'm so freaking happy that it's close enough that I have the opportunity to attend (if my gym doesn't have a competition that weekend).

I know there are lots of people that are annoyed at how slow the reveal is, but it's like cheerleading Christmas for me right now. I don't know what the next present is going to be, but I know I'm probably going to like it....a lot.

Well, you probably "almost don't care about the format" because you know what it's going to be. If I knew what it would be like, I might also be excited.
And the difference between you and others is that you know you'll get great presents. Others just think it's Christmas and nobody had time/money to get presents, so they try not to be excited because they might be just as disappointed in the future presents like they were in the first present they got (the "announcement" of Champions League). They will wait until the last present (the explanation of Champions League) that puts it all together until they let out their excitement/build it back up.

There's drawing something out in order to build excitement and then there's being annoying. I'm sure we're all leaning towards the second.

I wish CU wouldn't have made that HUGE "announcement" about the word "Champions League". If he had just announced (without such a big hype) that over the next weeks we will find out about a new exciting competition named CL with lots of top teams I think people would still be excited. The only person on my twitter timeline who is excited about this (and I'm not exaggerating) is CheerUpdates himself.

this champion league must be doing something right because it's 13 pages strong...summer time or not.
Well, if it were doing something right it would reach 13 pages easily in a couple of hours and basically always be on top of the "What's new?" section. As King said - numbers didn't drop after worlds like in years past and I would not call 13 pages in more than a day a fast thread on here with the numbers of fierceboarders we have reached.

Aside from a cheerleading twitter, who all is behind this event?

My guess would be Nfinity and the cheer coaches that are a part of this. Though I do not know for sure and could know if I desired to ask, but don't think that is necessary. I can wait like everybody else.

Really I am glad someone is at least trying to do something. People keep complaining about too many bids at Worlds and as been explained here numerous times that will not change no time soon because of the money USASF/Varsity makes off the way Worlds is currently set up. People like the Majors format but don't like it excludes some higher profile teams/programs and that it "takes away" from the main event of Jamfest Indy.

More higher profile teams, less "not Worlds caliber" teams for the cheer purist to have to sit and watch, an event right before Worlds that can at least be initially be seen as a showdown before Worlds and potentially as an alternative to Worlds that is not run by USASF/Varsity. While it will potentially will never affect me or my program personally, I am interested to see how it all turns out for the industry.

This is happening during our spring break. I would not be happy if we had to go to Philly instead of the beach or a cruise. Just seems like it will be a very expensive April for some families. And what if they have another child on a lower level going to The Summit. Philly, Worlds and Summit in one month. Time to get a third job to pay for cheer!!!

I'm not sure if I believe if this is an anti-Varsity/gym owners takeover/whatever event. There are several coaches for these teams that are VERY involved in Varsity and not to mention USASF. Heck, some of them are even employed by Varsity.

I don't know as much as you think. I don't know the format, other than it's a competition. I only know the teams that have been announced, though like everyone else, I have my guesses on who else is coming. I don't know how teams have been decided, didn't know it was going to be close to my home, and do not know who is judging. I knew it was not a jammy/varsity thing...that was the only piece of info I had that hadn't been said. Other than that, I'm waiting just like everyone else.

I'm in 100% agreement with you. When I go to worlds, it's for Hip Hop and I don't get to see the cheer side. I'm so excited for this event, regardless of format. Especially since its close to DC and I don't have a comp that weekend :) road trip!!

The one thing about this that tickles me is the uproar about "how teams are chosen", like there have to be rules or it has to be fair.

If I created an invitational event, I would invite exactly whomever I wanted using whatever reasons I wanted.
