THERE ARE NO ALLSTAR GYMS WHERE I LIVE SO ME AND MY MOM STARTED A CHEER PROGRAM LAST YEAR IT WENT REALLY WELL BUT ALL THE FLYERS ARE TO SCARED AND THEY WONT LISTEN WHAT ARE SOME THINGS WE CAN DO YES I KNOW IM ONLY 11 BUT IM DOING MOST OF THE WORK SINCE I KNOW A LOT MORE THAN MY MOM AND EVERY TIME I GIVE THEM ADVICE ABOUT HOW TO IMPROVE THEY START CRYING PLZ HELP!!!!!!:banghead:
 
We arent ranking yet we dont have enough but most are begginers. They arent confident enough they get scared in a thigh stand!!! And so do the bases.
 
You're 11 and are a head coach? Are there any certified coaches at the gym? What age girls are on the team?
Could it be that they aren't confident because it's not an adult teaching them? Just trying to figure out why they are scared of thigh stands.

Crying wont help anything. If their crying because their scared maybe they should try basing. Try having the best stunt group you have go up to a prep level stunt and come down safely with proper technique to show the team that it can be done (if that stunt is too hard try something easier thats just an example) it may be they are just unsure what to do and scared of getting hurt and they just need to be shown that it is ok.

This thread throws up some red flags for me.
If flyers are crying about thigh stands, then:
1. They are getting thrown into something that they are not mentally ready for
2. Probably don't understand what they are supposed to be doing physically
3. Should not be forced to fly until mentally and physically ready, as they will freak out in the air and possibly injure others

Beginning flyers should be doing drills first and foremost to get body control (tight body drill, step & lock drill, eventually cradle hold drill & hang drill). They need to feel confident in their abilities to stay tight/lock as well as visually understand what the correct thing to do is (shown by another group, youtube video, etc. etc.) before anyone goes up in the air.

If you and your mom don't know proper drills & progressions to teach these stunts with correct technique, then I strongly urge the parent/coach in charge to get some coaching classes/credentials under their belt before doing trial and error with any athletes. Many of the different cheer companies hold classes across the nation and additionally have coaches dvds/manuals readily available.
 
I would like to say that while I am very impressed that at 11 you have the desire to coach. As with all things, time and determination will make you better. As a safety first kinda person, my advice would be to hire someone who is experienced and can help you achieve your goals while still being a young adult. Dealing with small children is very tricky, some of the best athletes on the world have trouble teaching because its not about Cheerleading, it's about reaching kids. As a father and coach it comes hand in hand. My biggest fear is that you might be putting too much on you. I am sure there is someone in your area that can help. I wish you luck and pray for all of your safety.

I would suggest inviting your mom here. You can help a lot more by guiding her to some great resources.

I would highly recommend you and your mother not coach and you hire a trained professional. By lack of experience without a mentor to observe and teach you are doing nothing but putting the kids safety in danger.

this year shes getting certified last year we did really small stuff and there are no places in my area thats why we started the program
