Worlds does. Summit does. Via the Paid bids teams can earn.

Ok then who pays or them to go to nca in Dallas ? Bottom line this is just another competition and if people want to be on a level 5 team or allow their cp to be on a level 5 team they will have to deal with what competitions and where these cheerleaders are going. I don't see this big issue come up when it's nca time ? I dot see why it's a big issue now its a new competition and try it out

i cant even keep track of what teams have been invited so far??? but im guessing Smoed might be invited since two other cali teams are going, maybe even rockstar- the beatles and senior elite. which would leave five more open spots.

To put a different way the people who might go watch the majors are the same people in the following three weeks will be on at larges to go to Worlds. It is an additional $500 bucks to go watch teams but NOT compete.

Because Dallas truly is the best of the best at level 5 and other levels as well, not just a few hand picked teams based on unknown factors. Not only that, Dallas offers bids for Worlds (which does in fact put $ in a parents pocket ...in a manner of speaking). It is also almost 2-months before Worlds.
Again, as I have said repeatedly, I'm not opposed to this new competition, I'm just worried about its timing/cost.

I think it fights an uphill battle for the available money in cheer. I don't think there is that much more disposable income.

However I think if novel enough lots of people might stream it.

I completely agree! I'm interested in something new. I know I'm much more inclined to have my kid go to something like this than a comp competing against nobody. But my disposable income, especially with college fast approaching, is definitely feeling stretched to the max. To have to pull my child at this point after so many years, because we have been out priced, would be heartbreaking, but is becoming a possibility.

ETA: the out pricing isn't this new comp. it's just the whole cheer package and the $ issues of this new comp simply helped rekindle my fears as a parent checkbook.

I don't think there are many more ways to do a competition though. I feel like mostly competitions now try to distinguish themselves by being a different shade of gray. Live scoring is great! But it is still the same scoring and just announced right after a team competes and gives more transparency to the scoring process. It would be really hard for teams to go head to head because that would mean 3 to 4 performances in two days. I just don't see where it could improve. But I do think there is potential with the right organization to have a different system totally.

I'm kind of over people blaming EP's for the "overpricing". When you look at a 2 day what is the most money spent on? Travel, Hotel, Food, Comp fees? Seriously, it costs money to host an event. IMO location is everything bc flights, hotels and food cost money. Philly!? Really!? But we will all go and have a good time then complain about scoring/placements after lol.

If hosting an event cannot make money, then what is the point of putting one out there and running it. It doesn't mean they can charge whatever they want, but more whatever the market will bare.

I agree but let's say you're in ATL and you wanna compete at NCA. NCA is $100 and the flight is $300. Bc the flights went up should the comp fees go down? My point is I thing fingers are often pointed in the wrong direction. Heck idk who's paying for this thing but nothing is ever truly a "win-win" but if it can be figured out more power to em.

Lets say a gym does get a split of the comp fees, now some parent is gonna complain that they deserve their money back blah blah blah.

Oh, I totally get that. I'm speaking purely as a parent here... As we have seen other parents post, we, as a group, are starting to feel that this industry looks at us as bottomless check books. We do this because we love and support our kids passions, but the finances are definitely starting to force families out of something they love.

I can kind of agree with this feeling. It may sound a bit hypocritical, but I've seen many posts stating how nobody would want to go or can't afford to add another competition, so CL is a bad idea. To that I say, it's cheer. It comes with the territory to spend money. But I also think sometimes gyms may feel like if a couple people are adamantly opposed, they'll just replace you and move on. Even if a majority of the team agrees with them, they'll still do it, because they don't want to be cut and left out.

It's obvious, parents pay for traveling costs. There is no debate there. I think MissCongeniality, made her counter point not on the fact that it's a new concept and should be paid, but that it could potentially *make* the gym money. Gyms already make money off our tuition. So it could paint a picture of the gym now asking parents to pay more money so the gym can make more money. The cynical side of me in that scenario says for the $1600 the gym could profit, just take my $100 now and save me the other $1000 for flights and hotel...lol.

I'm not opposed to a new event either. Anybody suggesting a new major competition should understand that the current industry is already acclimated to two big travel competitions (NCA/Worlds), and economically it's hard to add another. However, if in their mind the goal is to replace one, if it succeeds, it doesn't impact the current model.

This is all happening early enough, that gyms attending could remove a comp from the schedule to fit this one in. So, the financial impact of this on the parents, hypothetically, may not be any more than they would be paying anyway.

I'm guessing you're not a parent of a level 5 cheerleader, huh? If it were that simple no one would complain. But what happens when you have a mortgage and a career is that it gets difficult to swing 2 back to back trips 1000+ miles away. Jobs don't like the time off requests and checking accounts don't like the cost.

No one said they shouldn't have this comp. We merely said that people are trying on one hand to attract more people to this sport and on the other hand driving people out with costs. Sure some people can afford it - but most can't. If someone doesn't have the skills to be on one of these teams then by all means complain and say these are elite teams that only the cream of the crop should be on. But I think it's sad when kids have all the skill in the world but finances force them out (I'm not saying everyone should cheer for free - but the costs are starting to make cheer for the rich only)

That being said this comp interests me and I want to see what it's actually all about.

I don't think anyone is blaming the EP's here? We know it costs money to put on an event (at least I hope people know that! ) It seems most people are more asking why gym owners think there is no end to the money parents have. If wanting to pay for it were all it took I think kost parents would be good to go. It just reaches a point where wanting it isn't enough - you have to actually have that much money.

If by some miracle I had a kid on one of these teams I'd have to pull her off because of this. Not a conversation any parent wants to have with their kid. :( I would have signed up knowing there was travel - but two 1000+ mile trips in one month ain't happening in my house.

Either way - it sounds like the parents of these kids are excited so more power to them!

Why is nothing on the west coast? Oh yeah let's have the teams from the west go to the east repeatedly over the year and see if we can bankrupt the parents. Worlds in Florida and then they add the majors in Indiana and now Philadelphia? What do any of these people have against having comps a little more central or west?

Agreed! However, that's still the gym's decision ultimately.
