The Majors piggy-backs off of Super Nationals though, it's not really a fair comparison. I understand that a lot of the Majors gyms don't compete at Indy, but CL is trying to replicate that success with no other event to help support it.

Oh - and round trip flights are $155 from Boston for Friday - Monday of that weekend. Good for ECE I guess.
Right, I get that. But the lack of that relationship would only affect teams if CL passed the cost to the participants, which would be unfathomable.

I thought the question was simply in reference to teams directly competing in the event; and would they be willing to pay extra to attend a non-bid event?

I HATE TIES! I don't understand not having a winner as often as we do either. Sudden death. Do a damn lib off to decide the winner. I don't care!

I think the issue for them is the audience for them has to travel. Everywhere else the audience is already there conveniently.
I agree! Especially in an event that is supposed to be an invite of the best of the best, how do you give out a tie??? I can't speak for the Majors scoresheet, but at least for Worlds, I don't even see how it could be mathematically possible. 300 pts possible measured to the hundredths???

Ties happen because most scoresheets have a much smaller number of finite possibilities than it would first appear. Even a few years ago for execution it was said no one gest a .0 and no one gets a 1. In fact everyone kinda gets a .2 at least and the best teams get a .9. Thinking like this removes 3 of the 12 possibilities. Really why scores are not calculated out to the millioninths place and then only displayed up to the hundredths and then deeper if needed I have no idea.

OK so if Odyssey is in then we will add Suns, Smoed, and Steel (maybe Slate?) to the mix.

I'm not convinced this is a stand alone kind of thing. I don't think anyone would think 24 teams can pay for the convention center and make money on their own, regardless of their caliber. It doesn't seem economically feasible to me.

But if they piggy backed it, like the Majors, you could cover your costs from the general competition and also bank on those folks sticking around and paying a separate ticket fee for this. Isn't that how the Majors works? That would seem to make much more financial sense.

A quick trip through google shows Encore Championships is at the PA Convention Center on April 5,2014.

Either this is moving out or Encore is somehow connected with CL.... Which wouldn't make a lot of sense since they're affiliated with Varsity.... But who knows. All I know is Encore has a scheduled competition for the same bat time and same bat channel.

Weird...Encore was at Temple last year, and definitely not big enough for the Convention Center. I don't see this being affiliated, since CL is not connected with Varsity, so I'll guess it's a wait and see thing.

So far i'm liking the idea of this competition, but i wish that it was 24 gyms. Maybe 2 teams per gym location if invited?

Not every gym has more than 1 location, or multiple teams at this level.

Yeah. Its just, and no offense to these teams, i'm afraid it'll be 3 CEA teams, 3 Cali Teams, 2 WC, and their taking up all these slots and I wished it was by gym or something so there would be more teams able to participate...

We don't know who was invited and declined (though, based on bluecat's post, it would seem CA declined). We also don't know who is left on the list, but who would you replace? Cali Coed or Lady Bullets? They belong. WCSS belongs. Ody is consistently at the top of their divisions, so they have an argument for belonging. SSX has globed multiple times and belongs, and Coed Elite is consistently in the running for the top spot at every competition, so they belong.

But, to play devils advocate... If you look at the history of Worlds and the teams that have placed the highest over the entire 10 years, Cali, CEA, and CA have multiple teams in that list of top 20.
CA isn't going - so that leaves Cali and CEA. Senior Elite and Cali Coed are, according to statistics, the "premier team" in terms of consistency and high placements. BUT, SSX/Coed Elite and LadyBullets/Smoed are newer teams and have been premier teams in their divisions and quite frankly are always Champion/Medal contenders. They deserve to be there over other teams that have never even medalled... In my opinion.

I mean in my opinion, if Smoed aren't invited then that's some BS considering they are as successful as LB and Coed, same goes for SE with Coed Elite and SSX being announced.
