Actually "Indian" when used to refer to Native Americans is not a race at all but a misnomer. My great grandmother was Creek, and she considered that her "race" and wasn't bothered by the term Indian used to refer to a group of tribes. It had nothing to do with her identity. It doesn't bother me either.

"Indian" is a race. & I am native but it doesn't bother me, but I would definitely not cheer on a team named Indians. Just like I'm sure you wouldn't cheer on a team with a different race as a name

According to science and the law it is NOT a race, but a nationality for those from India. It was mistakenly used to refer to a variety of native races in the Americas because Columbus thought he was actually in India. It is not and never has been a correct term for any race of people.

I am half Cherokee and I am telling you now, if I had a chance to play for the Braves or the Redskins, I would be like, "where do I sign and would you like me to build a teepee!" :)

I stated my opinion and you're telling me I'm wrong

I think that people have a hard time understanding why you don't think a name, a name that was given because people were being killed for it, is offensive.

I get that people are offended by "Indians", and in some places around North America it is very serious to use that term when talking about Native Americans. But, the term "Blood Diamond" signifies diamonds mined strictly for the cause of insurgencies, war lords and the profit people who will stop at nothing to inflict their will, regardless of who gets hurt or killed.

I do think it is a horrible & disgusting business, but it's not like its happening here, or people on teams are working in that industry (at least I hope not). I just don't understand why people are freaking on me over it. I'm frustrated more than anything.
