sphocott, interesting thought on a point system above. Good concept but still think it would need to be based on the previous seasons results with the gyms given the option of declining an invite if they don't think they would remain at the same level or higher based upon the new team composition.

But that would be the point of registering. If you decide you want to be eligible for the CL and want to be entered, you register, send in your season's schedule. It would be solely based on the coaches/teams decision to enter before the season started. That way the teams can have it on their schedule. Like worlds, everyone plans on going to worlds. You don't know if you're going until you get a bid. It's the same concept.... Kind of haha! But I guess we can only wish it were that easy haha!

sphocott I get what you're saying however who's to say there needs to be a selection process that follows a guideline for an event? I mean ANY gym (or group of gyms) can host an event. I'm hoping more do. I think this is a group of high quality programs. I don't think there was a set selection process nor do I think there has to be one. Now if we were talking about a National or World Championship that is sanctioned I think a process is needed. For a simple event, no need. I know everyone WANTS to know the "how" but it is ok to just get together and compete, have fun and move on to the next. I think and HOPE the fun side is the most important. Because this isn't a sanctioned event I don't think there is or should be a rule to participation (I'm sure there are basic ones).

I agree 100% with you on that! If it is just one sole event, then yes, no selection process is needed just like with the Majors. However, if the competition wants the best of the best to compete head to head at the end of a season kind of like the Super Bowl, some sort of process should be used wouldn't you think? But obviously, all competition in the end is fun competition no matter who goes and who doesn't! It's all in the spirit of the sport, and obviously if the teams are selected to go, they will be put to a high standard to live up to being chosen for that position.

They may change how it's run in the future, but for the first year, it was critical to get some momentum. They also had to know if teams were going to attend. So the agreement was reached before the invite.

That makes sense. Any company has to market the event to make it known in the beginning. I see now.

Wait, are you saying that the CL doesn't have the best of the best there? Who do you consider as the best of the best?

I never said that they didn't. I said you never truly know who the best of the best is until the season actually starts. What if one team that wasn't chosen ends up clearly being amazing the entire season while another team that did make it probably wasn't as elite as they thought they were going to be. If you read all of my posts, you would see that I never said that these teams aren't the best of the best. I was just stating a fact.

I did read all of your posts and I understand what you're saying. But very rarely does a team in the level 5 divisions come out of left field and dominate to the caliber of these teams. I think if CL picked teams with the system you've said, they'd pretty much have the same teams.

... and those teams couldn't make travel arrangements until 2 months before the event.
