It is the same problem they have at Cheersport. A team in one division may be third and but twelfth in another. What would stop a gym from having, for example two small senior teams in both divisions?

Separation by gym size, determined by the number of athletes total at your gym. Then you only qualify for one division.

Fair question. Answer: The same thing that stops ALABAMA from having a team in Div 1A and Div II. We would make rules based on the parameters that are set up.

to be honest im very skeptical, and havent been convinced this is a good idea yet. but im wondering, what classifies a "small gym"? what if theres a gym that has over the "small gym" numbers, but only a small portion are of senior age and even eligible to compete? so say a gym has a LOT of mini, youth and junior teams (which could put them over the number), and only one worlds team? would they then be classified into a large gym and put in division 1?

Im also a little skeptical about the world championship title losing its meaning. Being a world champion is such an honor, but would being world champion of division 2 be the same? im guessing probably not, but im not sure.

I'm going to stick with the "College Football" theme I've been using just for ease of conversation. When App State won the NCAA Div I FCS Championship, I am sure thay were proud to be the National Champion and I am sure no one confused them with LSU for the College Football National Championship. What I am saying is - YES - people will recognize that Div II is just that - Div II. And that's OK.

I absolutely love this idea and hope it passes. You have programs that have 1000 athletes, kids flying in from across the country, staying in housing programs competing against small time gyms with 200 kids and a population base of 30,000. There will never be an avenue for the smaller programs to compete in Level 5 if this isn't passed. Kudos to everyone who is behind this.

I absolutely LOVE this idea. There are quite a few details to figure out. First off Fierce Boarders, for better or worse you all are the best at finding out the weakest areas of any idea. That is one of the (annoying) strengths of the board. The big thing is cheerleading is set up to allow people to compete in subdivisions already (we already separate out by age, level, makeup of team and sometimes by gym size). This is just an extension of this at the biggest event. Lets assume this idea is mature and what it is trying to accomplish at the moment:

Give a level playing field for those who are trying to compete. Some gyms are bigger and some are smaller. There is no denying that. The situation that creates the least amount of complaining (oh who are we kidding.. B***ing) is when teams feel they have a fair shot. This will allow them to think they have a fairer shot. It takes an educated mind, but look and understand that this will lead to a more level playing field.

Sandbagging - That is the BIGGEST concern. I am sure there will be rules and restrictions to help and also ways people have to level and qualify up to the next level. First one, for me, is anyone with multi-locations cannot compete in DII, no matter HOW small an individual gym. Reduces that desire to join a conglomerate of gyms and compete at the DII Level.

Quality of Worlds win. Winning D1A in football is bigger than than winning DII in football. Winning D1 in cheerleading is better than winning DII in cheerleading. That is the prize worth going for the bigger win. Will DII teams be as good on the whole as D1? Probably not and probably wont have as big an audience either. But that is the same in football. DII teams compete on a smaller level as well.

Divisions at worlds: I think JUST small senior and coed should be in DII at the moment as well. I think that covers the 95% of those who should be in DII.

It is a really good idea that makes a lot of sense, and it is actually creating a safer environment. What can be done to refine this idea to make sense?

Omg darn iPhone. What I meant to say what about gyms that are considered "franchises" - same name different owners?

I like the idea. i really do. i just have one apprehension:
For me, I just feel like it's going to create even more unnecessary elitism when it comes to divisions.

There are some strong small gyms who I feel would have a monopoly in their divisions. So is it really helping anyone other than giving small gyms a chance to place higher?
I could be completely wrong, I just feel like it would take the prestige out of being a world champion.
