I am curious to how big Green Bay is too.
But PCM isn't a small program at all. They have 25+ and five/six worlds teams.

Sorry, my mistake, like I said, still kind of new to cheer - got into it to help out my CP's team and kinda made a hobby out of it now. lol. Still learning the team, particularly the West coast ones.

Oh no it's totally fine! There are a lot of programs that I was surprised to hear are smaller/larger than I expected.

Since every athlete is registered this year, or I think they are supposed to be, could you base the number off of level 5 athletes?

I kind of like the idea of having the mega gyms having to field only Medium/Large Senior teams just because they have the talent pool. IMO if you take the top 10 teams in the small senior division. The bottom 3 teams are are no where on the same playing field as the top 4.

If I had to take the top 20 small senior teams from this past year and decipher between d1/d2 this is how I would group them. But then again, who am I to say whose d1 / d2.

D1:
California Allstars
Cheer Extreme Allstars
ICE Allstars
Pacific Coast Magic
Champion Cheer
Green Bay Elite
Woodlands Elite

D2:
CheerForce
Central Jersey Allstars
JuST Cheer Allstars
Greensboro Allstars
Orlando Allstars
Cheers & More
AZ Power
American Elite Allstars
Ohio Extreme
Maryland Twisters
Cheer Express
World Cup Suns

One question.. Why Cheerforce in D2? They've medaled in small senior, heck it's arguable they could've won in 2010 minus their hiccup, and had their first year small senior come seventh with a fall. Plus, they're a part of a huge program.

Just throwing a number out for discussion. In no way am I settled on it.

125 enrollment in All Star cheer program. Prep program, tumble classes and other gym classes offered do not count towards this number. Only those enrolled and competing in the all star program. One location only.

I think prep should be counted if counting all competing athletes. My first though was that prep would be one place to "game" the system if anyone was trying to sneak into D2. I agree that non-competition athletes shouldn't be counted.

The athletes are not registered by level, only by name and birthdate. Suzie could be on any team or level, and the USASF is not keeping track.

That's right, worlds teams just have to be 5 star members. Hmmm....they could add that. If its something they are looking for possibilities. I remember on the Usasf rules live video cast a couple years back, the large and small gym issue was the most heatedly discussed outside of what defines a gym and youth 5.

This is the direction we are looking at but there are additional obstacles to overcome. (I sure wish it was that easy though. LOL)
My suggestion is to have 3 thresholds:
Gym size somewhere between 150-175 combined and not including prep etc.
Number of worlds teams 1 or 2 teams (the mega gyms tend to have multiple worlds teams)
Less than 2 or 3 locations

So even if you only have150 kids but you managed to have 3 worlds teams you're d1

Pick the specific numbers and decide if someone can opt into d1 and you'll be set

Suns belong in D1 no doubt.

I just don't see the point of determining who is L5 and who isn't... It could easily change throughout the year. What if some kids lose skills? What if a L4 team decides to go L5 for the end of the season? Too many factors to consider, and really no point in adding more time and resources to something that is already going to be a PITA. If a gym has 400+ kids and a worlds team, that is significantly different than a gym that has 200 kids and a worlds team. Gyms that have worlds teams probably have more lower level kids also. I would go out on a limb and say they have a correlation. I don't think there is any gym out there that has a worlds team but only 50 kids in the gym, and I don't think there are any gyms that have 400 kids but no L5 (even if they aren't a worlds powerhouse).

But what happens when they field those medium and large teams and then still have a ton of extra L5 athletes that have to be placed somewhere? If they can't make a small team, where do they go?

I want to let this go, but I can't. I don't think you can put a TEAM in D1 and not the whole gym. So Twisters and World Cup would be D1. They are powerhouse gyms. Maybe those specific teams aren't, but that doesn't mean the gym isn't. This isn't a team thing, it's a gym thing, and you have to have some criteria (namely, gym size). You can argue logistics, but it needs to be simple. It also needs to be something where if a team thinks they can take it all, they can go for it against the big dogs if they want to. If you get a paid bid, you can use it the same as normal-either in D2 (if you qualify) or D1. You get the paid, awesome. I don't think anything about the bid process needs to change. If you think nobody in D2 would get a paid bid, who cares? Most of those programs that are not in the top 5 and would be D2 are going on at larges and partials anyways.

Also, my love for Cheerforce will never go away. Never ever. :cloud9:
