One of my favorites in Ohio:
Piada- a chipotle style kind of set up. U pick your type of pasta, sauce, meat and vegetables and they put it in a giant bowl. It's delicious! They have them in Columbus and canton that I know of.
Anyone else know of other good places in Ohio and Pittsburgh. These are the places I go for competitions.

Strange I've never even heard of this! I'm from around Cleveland and I'm trying to think of any unique restaurants around here and I can't! I mean I don't eat fast food besides Chipotle and Subway and I really hate chain restaurants so I'm always looking for little non chain restaurants and we just don't have anything amazing here.

Alot of chain restaurants in Massachusetts. Cheesecake factory, 99, gourmet cupcake shops, panera, DD,orange leaf, zinga, pf changs, seafood from Boston or travel north to Maine.

My mom is doing a bit of traveling for work this summer and the trips have been turned into family vacays. Does anyone have any restaurant (or activity) recommendations in Schaumburg or any other northern Chicago suburbs? There is also a chance we might be in the Scranton, PA area in August if anyone is familiar with that area. We aren't looking for anything fancy since my two year old sister will be with us, but we love to try new places! Thanks in advance! :)

In Michigan there's this place called Happy's Pizza. (They're in a couple other states, but the majority of them are in Michigan.) It seems a little sketchy going there because in addition to pizza they also sell ribs, chicken, and seafood but the pizza is surprisingly good. And when we ordered we told them it was our first time there and they gave us free wings! And if you're in the UP make sure to get a pasty and some Mackinac Island fudge.
Oh also, we drink pop. Not soda.

I went to a friend to London yesterday and I remember someone on here recommending Nando's.
We went there and I loved it too. I didnt thought it was that very special, although it tasted great and is a much better alternative then going to fastfood chains we dont have at home. We agreed at eating there again when we go back to london:)
Also so happy to take a dozen of krispy kreme doughnuts home. My friend didnt understand why I wanted to go get doughnuts so badly, but when he tasted one he understood why I like these so much better as the ones they sell here.

I definitely will if I'm ever around there! I'm on the east side though, which is not nearly as built up and exciting as the west side. Seriously...If I absolutely have to live in Ohio when I'm older, it'll be Sandusky for sure. There's just so much to do around there! And my favorite restaurant of all time is Famous Dave's. I can't believe I forgot that one, it's local! I know there's one in North Olmsted but nothing beats being right on the water next to Cedar Point!

BISCUITS AND GRAVY IN THE SOUTH. So mindblowing. I never even heard of it until the south.

In the north, gravy = brown bird gravy.
In the south, gravy = white flour sausage gravy.

Sooooo different. So perplexing. I wish I liked biscuits and gravy, but I can't do it.

Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg is HUGE... Like, probably the biggest mall in the Midwest besides the Mall of America. Lots of shopping and dining. Rainforest Cafe is fun. There's a build a bear and a legoland in the mall and kids seem to looooooooove legoland! You're also less than an hour (depending on what time of day... avoid rush hour) from downtown Chicago... Go to one of the lakefront beaches (the most popular is North Ave beach, my favorite is Foster Ave beach...less crowded!) or to the museums! I love the Shedd Aquarium and the Museum of Science and Industry. It's also about a half hour from Brookfield Zoo which is a huge world class zoo that's very fun for all ages. Six Flags Great America/Hurricane Harbor Water Park is about an hour away as well. Super fun but can get very crowded.

I love Woodfield Mall, it has so many stores I don't have in my mall by me it really is HUGE  and in Chicago you should also visit the Bean, its a really cool tourist attraction.

Lol I always forget about the Bean for tourists - I walk by it every afternoon so I forget that it exists. But you're right - people do love to see it (I have no earthly clue why).

@ashscott41 Chicago has great places to eat. If you're willing to come into the city (take the train - parking here is for the freaking birds), I'd recommend eating at The Girl and the Goat (hard to describe, probably best to google it but it's phenomenal), Carnivale (crazy beautiful Latin American place - hands down my favorite place to eat), or Lou Malnati's (yummy deep dish pizza). All 3 are definitely worth the trip into the city.

Things to do in the city: go see the stupid Bean, the Married With Children fountain, Michigan Ave shopping, John Hancock building, or Navy Pier for a boat ride (Navy Pier itself is dumb, but they have great little 1 or 2 hour cruises out of there). I agree about the beaches - North ave is really nice but god is it crowded. Foster beach is much better for finding a spot to sit. The aquarium is nice but crowded. I'm not sure how I feel about the museums - they're very overpriced if you ask me (nice but you can spend $100+ for 2 people to go see all of one museum)

We totally went to the Bean when we were there. Not sure why either but took some cool pictures. :D

Yeah my friend from nyc just came to visit and we had to go look at it. She took a bunch of pictures. She's on some crazy diet though so I couldn't get her to go ANYWHERE to eat!:rolleyes:
