Very sincere question...do you know how far it is between Florida and California? I only ask because the few people from outside of the states are in awe once they realize exactly how big the States are.
My mother's Aunt wanted to drive to Seattle thinking it was just a few hours away and was shocked once she realized that the trip would take days not hours.

Yeah, I know it's not just around the corner
I thought we would have three weeks between nca and worlds (or wouldn't that have been enough? Is it really THAT far?) , but now I realize that nca is one week later than I thought and a little less than 2 weeks sounds stressful.. Too bad...seems like we'll have to choose one of them..

To drive straight there would be about 2 days. So 2 weeks might be enough to stop and see a lot if you're flying back!

Ok, you were def. thinking rationally! You could probably do it in two weeks but it may be more rushed than you wish.

Yea Daytona to LA is about 36 hours of just straight driving. I would think two weeks would be enough to stop off to see some places along the way.

I think you could definitely make it in two weeks! Earlier this summer my best friend and I did a trip from Missouri to California and back home (round trip our trip was about 500 miles longer than what you'd be doing) in 8 days with plenty of time to see things. I would start by picking cities in the southern part of the US you'd like to see. For example: drive from Daytona to Atlanta, ATL to New Orleans, NO to San Antonio, SA to Dallas, Dallas to Albequerque, to the Grand Canyon, to Las Vegas, to Los Angeles area, then either down to San Diego or up to San Fransisco then fly back to Orlando. It is A LOT of time spent in the car and some of the drives are long and boring, but if you have an open mind and good music it can be so much fun! Or if you want to spend more time seeing places and less time driving you could drive up the east coast to New York! Good luck planning and congrats! That picture is incredible!

IMO sitting in a car for the bulk of my trip would not be such a great honeymoon... There is so much to see in Florida alone. You could cruise out of Miami and go to the Carribean and see a whole different landscape! Last minute walk on cruises are pretty cheap! The Flirida Keys are also lovely if your not into ships.
Cali is awesome but very far. Perhaps plan your first anniversary to Cali and then see Vegas I'm the same trip! and I agree about renting a house or condo... Staying on Disney property isn't as Magical as it seems.

The thing about driving that (most likely the I-10 freeway unless you plan on taking a detour to a more northern route) is that through many points there is literally nothing. Just getting across Texas alone is fields and fields and fields for hours. You have some neat things in California, but then a long time across the desert/Arizona/New Mexico/West Texas (which in those parts isn't all that nice in my opinion). The San Antonio/Austin/Houston areas have some cool stuff to see, but then you are back to a lot of nothing, driving through cypress trees for hours and hours and hours. You could detour to New Orleans if chosen (historic things to see and places to eat/drink, but some areas give you that sketchy feeling), and then you are headed through gulf areas. Once you hit Alabama and Florida, there are some beaches and things you could stop by, but then once again, it's several hours to drive through grassy, country-fied Florida until you get to the Orlando area. With traffic, it will probably be about 40 hours in the car not counting food stops or sleep, or any detours to nearby cities. Better have some good CDs and snacks to get you through the car time. Be careful of crazy drivers, "unmarked" cop cars that are legal in certain states (Arizona I'm talking to you), mountain roads (going into Cali where there are cliffs on the sides of the road), and stopping in border areas (Tuscon, El Paso, etc....some are alright, but it's always good to be aware). The journey is definitely do-able if you are a big fan of road trips, but speaking from someone that has done it a couple times, it is a lot to undertake, especially if you aren't used to driving here.

Something to note as well: Florida is notorious for Toll Roads. Have a big bag of American change ready when driving through that state!

36 hours of straight driving is actually less than I thought, so that's a plus
After giving it some thoughts we have decided to change the plan a little. It's only 10 days between NCA and ICU worlds, so it felt like a much better idea to stay in Florida that week, watch both icu & usasf worlds and then take the road trip after that. It would make our honeymoon a little longer (6 weeks I think, about 3 of them on the roads) but if we're going all the way from Sweden we could as well stay for a while That way we wouldn't have to take that extra flight from California back to Florida, we could just go "straight" home from there.

If we would drive (more or less) as ashscott41 suggested, how much of that trip would be "boring"? That part of USA is so different from Sweden, so it would probably not be that bad anyway.. But we are counting on spending some days just driving, so it's good to know before where we should plan to do that

We have "unmarked"/civilian cop cars in Sweden too, so we'll be prepared of that We should probably study some law/rules so we don't break any by mistake. And thank you, cheerforeverever, for the warnings about the border areas, mountain roads and the toll roads

If anyone have any suggestions on cities/places we'll have to visit (or should avoid), where to eat, hotels or anything I would be really happy. Google will be my friend the next few months, but its fun to find things to see and do, other that the tourist-stuff you find when you don't know the area.

I saw that NCA were 5 days, what days should we watch to get the most out of it? (is it possible to plan that already, or is it different every year?) We're mainly interested in the coed and partner stunt categories. And how much does usually the tickets cost?

Is it possible to find gyms who have some kind of "open practice", where you could just come, pay and stunt (mainly to get spotters, it's ok if there is no coaching)?

I saw that SFA state university isn't far from where we are going, but it's the wrong time of the year to watch any kind of game, right?

If you want to see a Southern college town, take a trip to Athens, Georgia, home of the University of Georgia. I'm biased because my brother goes there, but I think it's one of the most wonderful places on earth. Stingrays is only about an hour from there, give or take. Depending on your timing, you may even be able to catch the UGA Spring Game, where the football teams breaks into two teams and plays each other for fun. It's a big deal down there and you'd probably enjoy an American football game.

For April/May, the only types of college games going on will be baseball games (which most cheer teams don't cheer at). The cheer programs may be busy with tryouts or even tryout clinics depending on how late they hold tryouts. Many gyms however should have open gyms on certain nights though, so contact gyms you are interested in for specifics.

Depending on what route you want to go/how many detours to take, things to look into may be:
-Los Angeles (tons of tourist stuff, food trucks, classic restaurants such as Pink's hot dogs, etc.)
-San Diego (2 hours south of LA, San Diego Zoo (amazing!), beautiful beaches, etc.. El indio mexican restaurant is a must for me)
-San Francisco (quite a ways north of LA (6 hours or so), golden gate bridge, fisherman's wharf, cute sea lions to watch in the ocean)
-Phoenix ( AZ Power gym in Scottsdale is in the area)
-If you take the northern route I-20 to I-35 to I-40 (Las Vegas & the Grand Canyon, Twist & Shout in Oklahoma City, Cheer Athletics, SOT, etc. in Dallas, ACE in Birmingham,AL, Stingrays in Atlanta along with the Georgia Aquarium & Coca Cola World).
-If you take the southern route staying on I-10 (New Orleans, Woodlands Elite/Texas Lonestar/ Prodigy,etc. in Houston, San Antonio Riverwalk/Alamo and Schlitterbahn (go on a weekday, about 30 min from San Antonio, one of the top waterparks in the world), walk around South Congress St. in Austin, watch the bats fly out from the bridge, do 6th street & Esther's follies, etc. then drive across the 290 to Driftwood for world famous The Salt Lick BBQ, which will put you back out on to I-10)
