But are rewarded in level 5. What are some other more level appropriate inversions?

The inversion that BSB and Orange did come to mind. I don't think a level 2 skill (ground up inversion) should be considered "elite" in level 5.

Well, if it catches at the top I'm pretty sure its level 3, if that's any consolation. The only variation of a inversion to the top I really can think of are front walk over ups, handspring ups, BSBs stunt, and the first element in from Generals routine (which didn't catch at the top, so). Want to be innovative and create a new way to invert to the top?

If the fwo up or bhs up does not include a release, is from the ground and goes to 2 legged at the top, it's level 2. If it goes to 1 leg, it's level 3. I saw numerous teams at worlds doing the level 2 version. The BSB/Orange stunt with the inversion and release is level 5 (if it went to prep like the back row of orange it's level 4). I agree there are limited variations of inversions to the top that are truly level 5, but don't think those particular skills should be classified as elite in 5.

I mean most inversions that level 5 teams compete appear to be done for more of a visual side, because most of the inversions performed are honestly level 2/3.

Thank you! The creativity vs. level appropriateness of an element is a tough argument. In my opinion I'd rather see a visual level 4 element (ie. toe touch up to the top) in a level 5 routine, versus a typical "level appropriate" inversion like the flyer is upside down, then pop release to extension. Until every level 5 team does level appropriate inversions I think it's safe to stay with what will still "receive credit" and look good.

I understand why the teams do it, I just don't agree with it being scored elite. I feel the same way with a whole range of skills, not just the inversions. I posted that months ago (why it's making an appearance now, idk) because a whole lot of teams were doing it this year. Instead of being creative and true to level (like BSB for example) teams were going level 2. I don't want to watch that at Worlds. I don't think that should receive full credit, and I don't want that to become a trend. I may be all alone on a little island with that thought, but it wouldn't be the first time ;)

And I loved BSB toe touch to the top 2 years ago...a level 5 element that was creative and visual.

I completely agree... I don't understand why they get scored so high. Sure it's creative, but it still doesn't make it level 5.

Trends that I wish would die? People talking about the size of flyers. If a coach thinks its appropriate to pull up a 12 year old from his junior 3 to fly on his elite worlds team, then every parent/ athlete should respect and not question this. Stunt difficulty gets harder every year. It's hard to train groups with bigger flyers to achieve this difficulty (and stunt group chemistry) over the amount of time required. That might be sad, but its true. It's the age of junior aged flyers.

Just because a stunt gets harder doesn't mean the flyer needs to get lighter. We have to teach how to base, and get these kids to develop some type of upper body strength.

Yes! Also, once these kids graduate and go to college they will not be flying the little ones anymore.
12 year olds are not going to college. The bases are going to have to fly 18+ year old girls,
(admittedly a few of these girls are the size of a 12 year old, but not all.) and the flyers need to
have been recent experience in the air.

Because nobody is doing anything harder to get scored any higher than the people who are doing these stunts. Like I said, when teams start doing truly level appropriate inversions to the top, I'll consider shying away from level 2 stunts.

This being said, BSB did win NCA.

Which is why I said 3 months ago this is a 2013 Worlds trend I would like to see stop. I want to see teams do level appropriate skills and be rewarded for them.

But that's kinda BS. If you're doing a level 2/3 skill, that's how is should be scored.
