DO NOT sleep with contacts in! My uncle did that once and they got stuck to his eye and slightly damaged it so he was never able to wear contacts again.

I used to have glasses and take them off when I competed and I'd always squint the whole time it was a hot mess :p I wear contacts now and I literally never take them out of my eyes. They're the kind you replace every two months and you're supposed to take them out every night to clean them but I got so sick of doing it I just left them in. So now I take them out every two months when I need to throw them away. Don't follow me though it's not good for your eyes :p Also, I was worried about touching my eye but it actually is a really amazing feeling putting them in for the first time being able to see crystal clear without having annoying glasses on your face. I'm pretty sure I cried when I put mine in the first time I was so happy haha. Good luck!

I am near-sighted since sixth grade (before far-sighted). When I started to cheer I would take my glasses off for practice and be glasses-free for competitions. It was hard for me to see lines and distant things. I finally got into high school when my parents allowed my to get contacts. I love wearing them and haven't any fall out from getting hit in the face. I find it is so much easier to with them. I just learn to watch how much makeup you put on if you got dry eyes because with my first competition my contacts with blurry no matter how many times I clean them.

I switched to contacts before I started cheering. I'm nearsighted in one eye, farsighted in the other. It took me some getting used to with putting them in and taking them out. The first few times, it took 30 minutes of trying lol. But once I get them in, I can't feel them at all. I'm terrible at taking care of my contacts. I've fallen asleep with them in a few times, my eyes wake up feeling weird and I'll wake up with a headache. And I don't get a new pair every 2 weeks. I'll use the same pair for months until I drop one and can't find it. I've gotten to where I hate wearing my glasses because I hate the smudges, fingerprints, etc. that get the lenses.

I say contacts. I have glasses right now, and i'm almost ready to switch it to contacts. Like, i can't see the coaches eyes so I don't know if they're talking to me or to the girl a mile behind me. They will help you see better, and not wearing your glasses for a long period of time could hurt your eyes

I have a mental block on putting contacts in, no joke. I got one in once (at the eye place) and it took forever. And then taking it out was so painful. Never again, ugh.

SAME!! It makes me feel so much better to know I'm not the only one who can't put them in. My eye doctor put the first one in and then I had a full on meltdown trying to put the other one in. I was so embarrassed because I was so scared and crying that it made it impossible for me to put it in. I'm sick of my glasses and would love contacts, but they just aren't for me so I'm waiting until I'm old enough for laser eye surgery.

Yay I'm not alone!!! Like it would be super great to have contacts but it's not worth the hassle. Like when I'm tired I throw my glasses on the dresser but when my sisters are they have to climb out of bed, go to the bathroom and pull their contacts out of their eyes. And after that I probably wouldn't be tired anymore.

My eye doctor got me a special kind of contacts that you can sleep in, or take out at night. With my old contacts it was weird if I slept in them and they like moved around and got dry. But now it seems like I have perfect vision... When really I have TERRIBLE vision. So if you don't think you can remember to take them out and put them in, ask your eye doctor and they might be able to help. The only thing is you have to switch every 2-3 weeks instead of every month but I usually just wait till they bother me and then put a new pair in. I wear my glasses sometimes if my eyes are super dry but it's uncommon. I love my contacts and hate wearing glasses because people always want to put them on!!!

I wear glasses all the time and I can't really wear contacts because I have allergy problems and anything in/around my eyes makes them worse. I've been fine with this so far but I'm only on a level 2 team so we don't do anything super fancy, at a higher level I can definitely see how they would be a problem. I had a pair of glasses that were a bit loose so kept falling off when I was tumbling, I switched to a tighter pair that don't fall off my face. I've looked at sports goggles (the type they use for ball games) and they seem like they could be an option, they are pretty ugly though :p If you want to keep wearing glasses and you're worried about them breaking, tell your optometrist, they can help you pick frames/lenses that will hold up better to sports/being hit (my optometrist always used to ask me if I was planning to play sports or anything, so they could take that into account). If contacts are an option for you then they would definitely be an easier way to go though.

That's good. :)
I would 100 percent go for contacts but I am against touching my eyes. How did she get over it? I would most likely get daily contact lenses. If I was to get contact lenses, would you sleep with them on or would u throw them away at night and then wake up and put them on? (I'm full of questions!)
Honestly the daily disposables are the best option if it's an affordable option. Technically you're "allowed" to sleep in certain disposables like monthly ones, but no respectable optometrist will tell you that they approve of that on a regular basis. By the time my parents figured out my eyesight was bad I couldn't see tree branches, leaves, xmas lights, the chalkboard at school (which is how they figured it out bc a teacher called home since I couldn't see from the front row). In retrospect my eyesight must have been bad pretty early on bc that's how I thought you were supposed to see. I was in the 6th grade. I also cheered back then in middle school (WAY LESS intensive than cheer is now, much less Allstar) and I couldn't cheer in my glasses. The lack of peripheral vision for me, as well as above and below if awful. For anyone who wears contacts I'm a -6.50, which is better after my eyes seem to have stabilized finally (I'm only 36 - it only took 24 years); I used to be -7.50 in my worst eye, the right.

I started wearing contacts almost right away bc I begged my parents bc of cheerleading. The glasses made it difficult- they slid when I sweat, they were big and got in the way, they'd go flying off, etc. They allowed me to have them at such a young age bc I was really responsible and took really good care of them (back when you had to clean them daily, weekly enzyme cleaning, AND had to last a year. I like the comfort of the monthly disposables better than the dailies, but I have to use the dailies bc of my severe allergies and all these bumps under my eyelid from them. Anyway, they finally make contacts now that are daily disposables with the thicker, more comfortable materials that the monthly disposables are made of. I also have astigmatism in my right eye, which is corrected w/the same contacts (something that used to be near impossible for me when I was younger bc of the technology). I used to be an optometrist tech for a bit and taught people how to use and take care of their contacts. I've been wearing them for 24 years. Holy crap I'm old!:confused:

I can put them in without even looking in the mirror or pulling on my lower eye (which you should try not to do if you don't want severe wrinkles from the years of tugging- but maybe you'll be lucky and get laser eye surgery at some point and not have to fuss w/them. Anymore questions I'd be happy to answer them for you. Down to all the brands I've tried, colored contacts, solutions, rewetting drops, drops for super dry eyes period, allergy eye drops, etc. :)

I will say that I've known a couple of people to play a contact sport w/glasses w/o trouble, but only a couple. It's just that they are so much more expensive than contacts to replace!! Even with insurance!

Glasses make my allergies worse bc they trap dust and dirt underneath them and confine them to my eye area. If I wear my glasses for an extended period of time (a few days), I'll end up with allergic conjunctivitis (non-contagious pink-eye). I take more allergy medicines than anything else (8 daily counting the anti-histamine prescription eye drops).

What type/brand of contacts does everybody use? I'm looking at different brands of contacts to help me choose a good fit. I made an appointment with my doctor so when I see him I can ask about the certain brands just to give me an easier selection of contacts. :)
