Did anyone receive an email from Cheersport saying Atlanta now will have a Stay to Play policy? They are requiring all hotel rooms to be booked through their connections department. Can they actually enforce it - sounds like a nightmare? What are your thoughts?

We went to a comp in Columbus, OH that had this policy as well. We didn't stay at their hotels because they were full and nothing happened. I can't imagine they could enforce this.

I'm going to a football camp this week with my son and they have that policy this year. I made reservations at one of the host hotels but using my hotel points, therefore not going through Connections Housing. I have been bombarded with emails about booking a room until I filled out a waiver and it was processed. I'm sort of interested in how it would have worked had I not stayed at one of their hotels. I was thinking of telling them I have family in the area!

It makes sense business wise. To have all the rooms available they do they have to reserve them and put their butts on the line they will fill them, otherwise they will pay for them. Meaning prices have to go up.

I can't really say I have a problem with it.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't like being told where I have to stay. The gym my daughter attends allows us to choose where we stay. Some prefer a more expensive downtown hotel while others stay on the outskirts for a more economical hotel. I do understand why Cheersport needs to monitor the number of rooms it brings to the city - but that can be done by a simple poll. Then the final number can be shared with the City of Atlanta. Too many families use frequent points or online websites. This will be interesting.

Do no allstar teams stay together and stay at hotels as a team? This is kind of a general question i've had because as a high school cheerleader whenever we have competitions that need a hotel we always stay as a team. Like 3-4 girls a room and parents are allowed to stay wherever they want.

My gym had everyone stay in the same hotel, but mainly athletes and their parent stayed together in their rooms. If there was a time that a parent couldn't accompany their child, the athlete would stay with another family or the coach.

Our coach said something like that but, I get discounts thru my hubby which I plan on using for Friday and Saturday and then I am staying with friends the other 3 days of being down there. I CAN"T afford to pay a ton of more $$.

Sounds like a change that Varsity is requiring now that they own Cheersport. Isn't this what NCA has done for years?

another money hungry competition.... do they not realize how expensive downtown atlanta, or the atlanta area in general is.... my parents live in kennesaw, and even they hate downtown cause of the prices.

This happened a couple of years ago at NCA. We all booked through the required housing agency and then NCA changed to a different required housing agency. Some of us had to really scramble last minute to find something. It was very inconvenient!
