Hi !
I've been practicing my back bend kick overs but everytime I kick I don't get anywhere anyone have suggestions? I know this is out of the main topic but I also been practicing my back walkover with a spotter on this little mat hill thing and we go lower and lower down the mat. But everytime I do it without the spotter on the ground I can't kick for life ! Help /.\

Work on your shoulder flexibility and make sure you are pushing your shoulders back in the direction you want to go. This helps transfer your body weight in the right direction versus leaving it behind (leaving you in the bridge position). Keep working it lower and lower down the cheese, den if it's just you feet starting 1 inch up the mat. And remember that tumbling takes time to get the skill and perfect it. Be patient and do your reps and drills

WinstonsGirl advice is helpful. My cp used to brute force her kickovers and back walkovers. They got so much easier & prettier once she got a feel for shifting her weight to her shoulders, and pushing toward her shoulders as she kicks. Drills that helped were bridge/kiss the wall, and bridge/rocking weight back and forth from feet to hands.

I've found that if my athletes can't kick over it's usually because of not pushing out the shoulder enough (hence why you need the shoulder flexibility). Try to do the drills @JumpChannel suggested :)

My CP is working on making her walkovers much smoother, so OP thanks for asking this question. GReat advice!

On carpet, try doing a back bend by a wall and then walk up with your legs to simulate kicking over for practice. When you kick without the wall, kick hard.

I absolutely could not kick over until one of my gym's coaches told me to lean in the direction I wanted to go with my shoulders & bring my body forward. Other than that, be sure to really jump out of your bottom leg. Good luck!! :)
