I have been a back spot for as long as I remember, because I have always been the tallest, and one of the strongest on my teams. Just yesterday I was learning how to base, and I was struggling. I may have to be a base for the first time this year and I'm kind of freaking out! My team mates were helping me out by telling me to squat when we are going up, and to use my legs not my arms to get our flyer up. Also, to never arch your back, make eye contact with your other base, and keep your feet glued to one spot. I got better whenever I tried to do all of these tips but still not that good at it. I'm so happy I got the opportunity to learn to base but I want to become great at it. Does anybody have any tips? Also any tips on being an instep?

All you say makes me think you're on the right way and will be great. Just give it a little time. Your teammates gave you great advice, it will just take some reps to get it into muscle Memory.

Funny thing is that yesterday i put a all life long Backspot be a Sidebase for the first time and she did great. Extended stunts, baskets, catching full downs.

My only advice is to keep on listening to the technical corrections and ask your flyer if she feels you grab strong enough, keep your back straight and enjoy the new position because it's a good way to be a well rounded athlete.
And that's what every coach is looking for :)

Idk what specific stunts you're doing or if you're even having these issues but here are a couple things I think are important!
Make sure you're paying attention to your flyer when you set for a stunt - since you were a back, you're probably tall, so if your flyer is short like mine you'll have to get really low. If you're holding their foot too high when they push off, it's hard for them to get up!
Keep the flyers feet together when you smush. It seems easier when you're coming down to let them come apart and in toward your body, but if you have to go up right away it makes it much harder! So even when doing basics and not in a sequence, you should try to do it to get into the habit! Also never be wider than the flyer apart from your other base!
Even if your grip is off, fight for that stunt. When we do switch ups, my secondary and I (I main) get our hands all tangled, but even if your hand is in the wrong spot, keep it up! It can be awkward but if you try you can usually make it work.
Are you side/secondary, or are you main?

I'm a side base now, but I'm sure they'll want me to main some too. And thanks for the tips! :)

Girl, I feel ya! I was a backspot throughout HS, when I was the tallest on my team. Decided 18 years old was a fine time to try to be more "well-rounded..."

Main difference between back-spotting & basing is to USE YOUR LEGS. When exploding into a stunt, try to stand up as quickly as possible. It's really about leg speed more than arm strength. Keep your back as straight as possible. Your legs will be SORE! That means you're doing it right. Good luck!

Thank you! Yeah I must have been doing something wrong yesterday because today my arms are sore, not my legs. But I'll remember that!

I have the opposite thing, where I was on a tall team so have been a base the whole time I've been cheering and am now on a squad of tiny people so I'm a back. I think that your arms will always hurt whichever way round you switch, even if you're doing it right, because there is weight going through them. You'll be building up different areas of your arms than have previously been worked, even though the power is coming from your legs. So don't fret about arms aching too much - I think that's natural. Good luck!

Watch other bases when they stunt, and try to look how they do!
I have always been a backspot, but now I've started to base, mostly for fun but I've had a couple of practices when I based.
My biggest problem while basing was to grab the heel while doing 360's. I automaticaly grabbed the ankle.:D

Master a handstand, it will strengthen and increase your awareness in your entire body.
