Connections gets a commission for handling the block and the EP gets rebates per room (usually like $5 per room) and additional concessions such as 1 comp room for every 50 rooms booked that they will use for staff

When hotels quote group rates all of these things that they have to pay (commission and rebates) are factored into the rate making your rate higher for the block.

We pay enough money for cheer and to these EP's and frankly this policy infuriates me.

"Let them book our hotel!" (Eat cake ;) )
What would happen if all of us cheer parents started a revolution to protest this industry that has clearly forgotten who ultimately has to pay for all these increased costs? I mean what would happen if we all pulled our Susies for the year? The reality is they (eps, owners, varsity) know that, as parents, and because it's something our kids love, we too often will turn the other cheek to something we wouldn't in other parts of our lives. We are expected to shut up and pay, and that's what we do.

Cheersport been held in Atlanta at the same time for 8 consecutive years There are
Cheersport banners lined throughout all of downtown Atlanta, restaurants even have signs in their windows welcoming Cheersports athletes. How can they say they need to prove how Cheersport impacts the city financially. How bout they skip a year I bet the city of Atlanta will see the impact with no question...

Does anyone else have included within their monthly fees to their gym Coaches Traveling Fees? Per the American Championship notice one can "earn free coaches rooms" and even EP's seem to be getting comp rooms based on charging the families more money???? Coaches Traveling Fees are included in our monthly fees. So what happens after we've already paid the fees and then the coaches get free rooms? I'm sure our gym isn't going to refund the fees.

I am getting very discouraged with all of the costs that there just doesn't seem anything that the parents can do. "We are expected to shut up and pay, and that's what we do." is so true. My daughter lives and breathes cheer all day, but I have three other children that I can't expect them to give up every extracurricular activity because her All-Star cheerleading breaks the bank. She is 9-years old on a Junior Level 3 team and I keep asking myself if I should just get her out of it now rather than later before she advances - like that would make it any easier!

Okay, vent over! Thank you for listening - I'm going to go balance my checkbook and see if I stare at it long enough the numbers will change!

old gym each parent paid coaches fees, sad thing, coaches fee's don't even go to the coaches expenses anymore, gym owner has made it optional for coaches to attend comps..

This is exactly how I feel about worlds.

I find it curious that since Feb 2013 I have checked the Cheersport.net website for the hotel room raffle and didn't see anything except "coming soon". Now, the raffle information along with the Stay to Play information suddenly pops up on the site.
I have been trying to book rooms since Cheersport 2013 for Cheersport 2014 with nothing available. Now I know why.
Sounds kind of fishy to me. And what "services" does the "city-wide" designation give the Cheersport Customer? I'd like to take adavantage of them.
I don't like being forced to use THS or any of the other group housing organizations.

Are you the person who does the hotel blocks at your gym? That's probably who they are working with. When the gym gets their hotel then the information goes out to the parents. Or at least that was how it worked for us.

Yes, I am along with the gym owner. Neither she nor I received any information regarding Lottery nor was it posted on the website. When she called Cheersport they said they were not doing the lottery this year. That the rooms would open for reservations August 1, 2013.

If a gym is doing right by their coaching staff expenses should include travel (mileage), a per dime for food and pay along with a room cost. I wouldn't expect a coach to go to competition on their own time and pay their own way. It's our choice, it's their job. It should be treated as a business trip for them.

My advice.......pick your top 3 hotels......call their reservations department and ask them what their hours are. If reservations is open 24 hours a day start calling at midnight Aug 1. Know exactly how many rooms you need (have your families pre sign up with you)

I completely agree that the coaches should be taken care of and don't have a problem with the fees. But if the room is free, simply don't include the charges for the room for that comp then. It is a business trip, and I guess my analogy would be that someone can't turn in an expense report for business expenses and expect to get reimbursed for costs they didn't incur, so it would only seem right not to charge upfront for fees that won't be incurred.

I would assume this is how most gyms would handle it anyway if they were aware that some rooms were free. This is the first time that our gym has experienced the Stay to Play policy though so it's all new. Our gym owners are (freaking all around wonderful!) very cognizant of the costs for families and I'm not really concerned about them, it's just more of a general curiousity on costs.

The problem is you have to make reservations through Connections for the hotels they have listed not with the hotel directly. At least that has been my experience. They will not have any of the good hotels (for me that is distance to the event) available, they will have those all blocked off for insiders and staff. The only thing I would do is make a reservation on your own and work with Connections - that will be a first time for Cheersport buy in as it said in the screenshot of the letter. Connections said they would work with the gym as long as the hotel is on their list. It does not work that way for NCA you have to use Connections period.

Our gym does not do blocks - only teams may do so within the gym. So most of our parents are on their own.
